BioShock In Space "Would Be Dope," Last Of Us 2's Shannon Woodward Says

"I love space in video games. I'll play crap video that are games in space, even if I hate it."

Shannon Woodward, who starred in The Last of Us: Part II as Dina, has an idea for where the new BioShock game should go: to space.

During an appearance on the Good Game Nice Try podcast, Woodward said up front that she is no expert and doesn't have insight on the game itself, but she's a big fan of games in space.

"Space? I don't know. Those games are so wild that far be it for me to impose a bad idea," she said. "I'd have to replay the third game to actually pitch something. Space would be dope though. I love space in video games. I'll play crap video that are games in space, even if I hate it. Just let me go see Saturn. I'm good."

Woodward's comment came in response to host Aaron Bleyaert discussing how the first two BioShock games took place underwater and the third went high into the sky. Woodward offered up the idea that the series goes even higher into the sky into space.

A BioShock game set in space is a very interesting concept, at least. What we do know about the new BioShock game is that it's in development at a new 2K studio, Cloud Chamber, and it likely will not return to Rapture or Columbia.

The last entry in the BioShock franchise was 2013's BioShock Infinite. However, the BioShock Collection was released for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2016 and delivered remastered versions of the first BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite.

Following BioShock Infinite, Irrational Games also downsized significantly and was effectively rebranded as Ghost Story Games. This smaller team is headed up by Ken Levine, creator of the BioShock franchise, and is focused on developing narrative-driven gaming experiences. Little is known about what Ghost Story Games is making, but in October a job posting described it as a "creatively ambitious project in the immersive sim genre," which is something that Levine, and no doubt others on the team, have experience with, having worked on System Shock 2, SWAT 4, and the BioShock series. Levine is not working on the new BioShock game.

Although Cloud Chamber and 2K have not specified a release window or platforms, it's a safe bet that the new BioShock title will be for next-generation hardware such as PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, given that the project will be in development for several years.
