Bill Burr Reveals The Unlikely Story Of How He Ended Up On The Mandalorian
The comedian speaks about how he came to be attached to the Star Wars TV show.
Bill Burr--a comedian who is known for his jokes about why Star Wars is dumb--appeared in an episode of The Mandalorian, and now the comedian has explained how it all came to be.
Speaking to Uproxx, Burr said he became attached to the TV show thanks in part to his involvement in the 2014 Mike Binder movie Black or White. Binder is friends with The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, and Binder eventually introduced him to Favreau at a party.
"And then Mike had his birthday party, and I went there, and Jon was there. And I was there with my wife, and he said, 'Hey man, I'm doing this Star Wars thing. There's a part in it that we're writing for you. Would you want to do it?,'" Burr said.
Burr went on to say that he pointed out to Favreau that he had been making fun of Star Wars for a very long time. Favreau said that was kind of the point of looking to cast him.
"He goes, 'I think your fans will get a kick out of it if you were in it,'" Burr said. "So I was like, 'Really?' And my wife was standing there and she's kicking my leg going, 'Do it!' So I was like, alright, I'll do it."
Also in the interview, Burr said he's not really a Star Wars-hater. He's just trying to be funny. Similar to how he made fun of Michelle Obama's book tour, Burr was poking fun at the Star Wars crowd with his jokes just to get laughs. "Well, the thing is, when I was making it, I wasn't being serious. I was just doing that comedian thing," he said.
Burr is coming back for The Mandalorian Season 2.
