Bike From E.T. Goes On Sale This Year For $800, Doesn't Include An Alien Or Ability To Fly

Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment has announced that a new version of the Kuwahara bicycle that the character Elliot famously rode in 1982's E.T. will be on the market later this year.

A new "E.T. 40" version of the bike is coming this fall to celebrate the movie's 40th anniversary. Priced at $800 USD, the bike aims to be a faithful reproduction of the one that Elliot used to carry his alien friend in a milk crate. This bike, however, does not have the power of flight or a milk crate like the one in the movie.

The new bike has a 4130 chromoly frame, which is the type commonly used in bike competitions. It also sports sealed bearing hubs and Dia-Compe brakes known in the BMX world. Additionally, the bike has the E.T. logo printed on it, as part of Kuwahar's partnership with E.T. studio Universal.

Kuwahara cautioned that supply and shipping issues related to COVID might impact the bike's fall ship date.

E.T. was released in 1982, just a year after Spielberg made Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. A video game version of E.T. was released for the Atari 2600, and it has the dubious honor of being known as the "worst game ever." Millions of copies of the game were buried in a New Mexico landfill.
