Square Enix's Dragon Quest series and Nintendo's Mario Bros. franchise could be considered part of the Japanese gaming pantheon. It's somewhat fitting then that Namco Bandai's God Eater has retained its seat atop Media Create's weekly top 10 sales chart, selling 110,235 units between February 8-14. The sci-fi action adventure easily bested Dragon Quest VI's 79,462 units, itself hanging onto a handy margin over New Super Mario Bros. Wii's third-place, 58,690-unit tally.

The week in Japanese gaming presented a handful of low-profile debuts that scored a place in Media Create's chart. Konami's Prince of Tennis: Prince of School Festival - More Sweet Edition for the DS finished fourth with 44,353 units. Konami also published sixth-place finisher Quiz Magic Academy DS: Futatsu no Jikuu Koku, which sold 31,813 units. The top 10 was rounded out by the debut of Nintendo's Zangeki no Reginleiv (21,956 units) and Spike's Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (21,600 units).

The remainder of the software chart will look familiar to anyone who has been keeping tabs on Japanese game sales. Tomodachi Collection for the DS landed in fifth on the week with 37,682 units, while Wii Fit Plus sold an additional 28,720 units, good for seventh place. Square Enix's Star Ocean: The Last Hope finished in eighth, selling 25,873 units.

Without a major new software release, hardware sales maintained status quo for the week. The PSP led system sales with 39,293 units, a figure followed closely by the Wii's 37,501 weekly performance. The PlayStation 3 sold 24,811 units, making itself the meat in the DS sandwich. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PSP Go rounded out the chart, selling an anemic 3,428 units, 1,869 units, and 1,394 units, respectively.
