Better Call Saul's sixth and final season, split into two parts across 13 episodes, will premiere on AMC on April 18 and then July 11. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report.

The season's first half will debut nearly two full years after Season 5 finale aired on the network on April 20, 2020. In addition to the palpable pressure fans can appreciate in the Breaking Bad prequel series internal conceit of needing to line up meaningfully with the previous series, the production endured numerous delays and complications. In addition to the pandemic, star Bob Odenkirk suffered a mild heart attack on set in July 27--though was able to return to work six weeks later. Production on Season 6 began in March 2021.

Expectations are high for the final season. Odenkirk, who plays Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman, told Collider that "the wheels come off" in Season 6 and the show "explodes in a million directions." In a recent and extensive New York Times profile of Odenkirk's relationship with the show--which is well worth a read--Odenkirk explains that his character will "spend a fair amount of time doing crimes this season. Just stupid crimes." Be forewarned: The NYT profile does have at least one very mild spoiler.

In the NYT profile, Odenkirk says of the series finale: "It's a lot in there, a lot to think about… It's a challenging way to go, to finish the series. It's not flashy. It's substantial, and on some level it's things I hoped for, for years, in this character's brain."

Odenkirk has a memoir, titled Comedy Comedy Comedy Drama, due out March 1.
