Bethesda Responds to Elder Scrolls Online Console Release Date Rumor

The Microsoft Store has revealed a purported February 24, 2015 release date for the console version of Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls Online, suggesting the game's long-awaited release might be just around the corner. However, Bethesda isn't yet ready to commit to an official release date.

Massively discovered the rumored release date, but Bethesda's PR and marketing manager Pete Hines tells GameSpot, "We haven’t announced a release date."

He adds: "Beyond that, I can't comment as we don't comment on rumors and speculation."

Other retailers, such as Amazon and GameStop, list The Elder Scrolls Online's Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release dates as December 31, 2015, almost certainly as a placeholder date.

The console versions of The Elder Scrolls Online were initially expected to launch in April 2014 alongside the PC/Mac edition. However, in May, Bethesda announced a six-month delay. Most recently, in December 2014, Bethesda shared the first official image (above) of The Elder Scrolls Online running on console, which in this case was on a PS4. Game director Matt Firor said at the time that the console versions "are playable and fun right now, but there's still some work to do before we can set an official launch date."
