It may still be winter, but Fallout publisher Bethesda has now started to announce its plans for E3 2016, one of the year's premiere video game shows. The Maryland-based company on Monday announced that its E3 briefing will be held Sunday, June 12, starting at 7 PM PST / 10 PM EST.

Bethesda's briefing at E3 2015 represented the company's first-ever presentation at the annual show. During the event, Bethesda showcased Fallout 4, Doom, Dishonored 2, and other games.

Bethesda didn't say what it plans to show at its E3 2016 briefing. The image above contains references to the Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises, among others.

Before today, Bethesda didn't commit to reviving its E3 showcase for a second year. "I don't know if we'll do one next year," Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines said last year. "I don't know if we'll do one again. [2015] felt like the right time to do this kind of thing."

Bethesda's first-ever E3 briefing last year was also held on Sunday evening, which, before Bethesda came along, did not including any briefings. This year, however, there will be at least two on Sunday, as Electronic Arts is planning its first-ever EA Play event for Sunday afternoon.

What are you hoping to see from Bethesda at E3 this year? Let us know in the comments below!

I just watched a video on IGN yesterday and they said that Bethesda wouldn't have their own conference again. I'm hoping for a new Skyrim but don't think it will be.

@face76: hell yah a new SKYRIM 4 next-gen systems, here's my $$$

@face76: New Skyrim? No. New Elder Scrolls? Possibly, but not for a long time

@punchlines4days: I don't understand why so many people are convinced Skyrim will get a direct sequel as if that was a good idea, or how Bethesda has ever operated lol

@skyhighgam3r@punchlines4days: Well, they don't have to call it Skyriim 2. They can just use a more sophisticated name to still retain the brand, like: The Elder Scrolls: Return to Skyriim. I would personally love to fully explore the world of Skyriim again, but in true next-gen HD graphics!! I mean, it would also make sense from a business standpoint as well. :)

@wilsondiabetes: since "skyrim" is actually named "the elder scrolls 5: skyrim" are you looking for 'the elder scrolls 6: skyrim 2" ??

it really makes no sense at all.

if you want to explore skyrim again "but in true next-gen HD graphics" go ahead play it on a pc, but don't go to high on the graphics options, or you'll be beyond what the "next gen" consoles can do... altho technically "next gen" implies a generation that is not here yet, so i guess you are talking playstation 5 and the next xbox, whatever weird name they'll use?

i'd love to see an elder scrolls 6 come out soon.. or even a rather surprising major expansion for tes 5: skyrim that adds new areas, quests, skills that go up to 300, and of course new perks with them.

@wilsondiabetes: They don't need to retain the brand. The Elder Scrolls is already their brand, lol.

oh no no, now major game websites/fans will create the hype for the next Elder Scroll game and next ten months news will be like "Is next ES is coming? What we want from next ES, These are 10 must have item list for next ES, Will the modes available on PS4/XB1 and how the next ES will run on consolse compare to PC?" etc etc....(no offence but its reality).

Avatar image for wanderz
wanderz

@asifah30: you know that hype started in 2012.. there has been plenty of "what do you want to see in tes 6" topics and even articles.. (one article sadly calling for a skyrim sequel in the title, instead of the elder scrolls 6)

also "where will the next elder scrolls game take place" "what features should return from previous games for tes 6"

Avatar image for jerms82

@asifah30: the next ES game won't come out till like 2018. I hope you're wrong lol, that's a long time to be hyped up with new ES top-ten articles.

hopefully theyll shed more light on how fallout 4 mods are going to work on consoles.

Avatar image for skyhighgam3r

@KimCheeWarriorX: I would expect that's one of their major talking points. It's a HUGE step for the console business, and they are literally the flagship of that change.

Hopefully the dlc will add a long story mode to it, like witcher 3 dlc.

It would have been stupid from bethesda not to do a conference this year, 2015 was the year of bethesda on the E3 at least for me, they showed the biggest surprises of the year being fallout 4 who took the spotlight, dishonored 2 and showing gameplay of doom, so way to go bethesda keep it up just release your goddam games without so much bugs!

It was wildly successful last year so I get why they wanna keep doing it. But they need another piece of resistance.

I know it's small visually, but there is a huge difference between what you said and that lol

Hopefully time for the next Elder Scrolls though (which is seriously what I hope you were actually getting at)

@wilsondiabetes: What they call it would be irrelevant. I've been all over that country in and out, some landscape changes wouldn't be enough.

That's part of the beauty of the Elder Scrolls series. Every entry is another country to explore. A country that is part of a larger continent that we have become intimately familiar with.

I have far more of a desire to explore Elsweyer, Argonia (Black Marsh), Valenwood, Sommerset Isle, High Rock, and Hammerfell, (or be introduced to one of the other 2 continents that they continually allude to in the series) than I do to retread old ground in Skyrim.

(Granted part of High Rock, and I think Hammerfell, were explored in TES II, but you really can't compare anything pre-morrowind to the modern entries)

Just to be thorough, even TES III: Morrowind didn't explore ALL of Morrowind.

Avatar image for wilsondiabetes
WilsonDiabetes

@skyhighgam3r: ....what? uh, you lost me. I've literally never heard of any of those places.

Avatar image for skyhighgam3r
SkyHighGam3r

@wilsondiabetes: They are the other countries on the Continent of Tamriel (Of which the country Skyrim is a part of)

Google image search for "Tamriel Map" and you will see what I mean.

Skyrim is only the northernmost country on the map.

TES V: Skyrim - Skryim is where the Nords are from.
TES IV: Oblivion - covered Cyrodill, the country where the imperials are from.
TES III: Morrowind - Covered, well... Morrowind (Or some of it anyway), where the Dark Elves are from.
Before that the games are on DOS, and are a bit different.
Even Morrowind's combat is differant, but it's at least more modern and 3D

@wilsondiabetes: No, that's very unlikely, as they just released Fallout 4.

Last year I thought they showed the bigger companies how it should be done. Bethesda's conference had me more excited than any other. For the second year they have a chance to show off more Dishonored 2 and Doom, plus some Fallout 4 DLC on the side... probably.

I predict they'll announce more cheap plastic junk gaming merch that costs an arm and a leg.

I don't think Fallout 4 DLC is important or mysterious enough to warrant another briefing. They showed a ton of stuff about Doom and Dishonored 2 already, so there's not much left to reveal for those. Bethesda likes to let the modding community kind of unofficially take over improvements to their big RPG's, once they've finished rolling out the last of their free updates and DLC, so Skyrim remastered seems unlikely. However, a minor reveal of a PS4/XBONE version of Skyrim that allows consoles to use mods, similar to what has been announced for Fallout 4, would not be surprising.

It has been 4.5 years since Skyrim's release, which is about a year too early for the next installment's reveal, especially since we still have a lot of Fallout 4 DLC coming down the pipe throughout 2016. Therefore, Winter 2016 is probably too early for Elder Scrolls 6 release. They might reveal it for a Q3 or Q4 2017 release, but historically, Bethesda has waited til they're about 5 or 6 months from release to reveal a game. Still, what else could be big enough to make them want to do another briefing so soon?

My money is on one of the three following possibilities:

1. Elder Scrolls 6 reveal

2. Brand new IP reveal

3. They made such ungodly money on Fallout 4 and the vault app after last year's briefing that they've determined that these briefings are too lucrative to pass up, in which case this year's briefing will be half as juicy as last year's.

Avatar image for skyhighgam3r
SkyHighGam3r

@jewell21: I'd be amazed if they didn't announce a new IP.

I'd be blown away if they announced TES IV too.

meh, do these people remember how to make rpgs anymore... or just copy theme-park mmos like wow, or turn historical rpg franchises into fps...

expectations for this year are low for me, maybe thats a good thing

I've been hearing that Bethesda considers ESO as a main series title and that they won't be releasing another ES game until at least 2019...hopefully that's not true.

Avatar image for olddadgamer

@SpicyRamen10: There was a four year gap between Skyrim and FO4, so I wouldn't be surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised.
