Bethesda Announces E3 Showcase Date

A new Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or something else entirely? We'll know in a few months.

Bethesda has staked its claim on a time slot for its annual E3 showcase. This year the big event will take place Sunday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. PT / 9:30 p.m. ET. This continues Bethesda's trend of placing its event on the weekend directly before E3 week, which is already packed with platform-holder and publisher press conferences.

This year's announcement came in the form of a charming little papercraft motif, with the theme "Creating Something Special." It teased characters from several of the publisher's top franchises like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Dishonored–though which of those will be making a formal appearance is anyone's guess at this point. Bethesda noted that invitations and registration instructions will be coming at a later date.

Last year's Bethesda E3 showcase featured a Bethesda-themed fairground and included Fallout 4 VR, the Creation Club, Skyrim on Switch, Dishonored 2 DLC, and more detailed looks at The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. The publisher tends to play its cards close to the vest, so we'll be watching to see what it has on the docket for this year.

EA has also started laying plans for E3 2018, with the announcement of its annual EA Play event and a tease that "the next Battlefield experience" will be there. That will take place June 9-11 at the Hollywood Palladium.

please dont suck like like last year

I think it's es6. The last one came out 7 years ago. Ill be disappointed if its the same old clunky gameplay when they do reveal it.

Avatar image for mogan

@ballashotcaller: I doubt it. Bethesda's already said there are multiple projects in front of the next Elder Scrolls, and they want to take some time on this one.

Maybe another spin off Fallout from Obsidian or something, maybe a different game entirely from the Bethesda core team, but I'll be real surprised if they say anything about an Elder Scrolls 6 this year.

Bethesda's conferences have been getting worse overtime. 2015 was great, 2016 was eh, 2017 was awful. They need to break this pattern.

Avatar image for Atzenkiller

Looks like they're planning to release their own version of Little Big Planet. Or some other creative crap. Now with the introduction of the creative club that will probably be a main focus for every game they release. It's all about microtransactions nowadays.

Avatar image for playstationzone

@Atzenkiller: they don’t do micro transactions not yet

Avatar image for alaannn

@playstationzone: they do its called creation club

Avatar image for aross2004

I'm guessing it's not ES6 or Fallout.

Avatar image for waelse1

Bethesda did great work in 2017, but their E3 was weak. Just as long as they don’t reverse that.

pls no more vr stuff

Support Single Player games!!!!

Love these guys one of my favorites.

Skyrim is finally coming out for the microwave?

Avatar image for ThePlantain

@Ground_Zero: inside source told me that it’s the toaster version.

Dear Bethesda, if you are planning more of the same show style as was done at E3 2017, please do not bother hosting a press conference and just do a Nintendo Direct clone. At least it would be less horrible than last year.

And to be clear the games were EXCELLENT last year, the press conference was so bad Bethesda squashed everything they did right their first E3 press conference of 2016.

Avatar image for illegal_peanut

Please, please, please get rid of ESO and announce ES6.

Avatar image for mogan

@illegal_peanut: Neither of those things seem very likely. ESO has gotten pretty popular, and they already suggested that the next core Elder Scrolls game is a ways away and has multiple projects in front of it. So, I'd guess that the biggest ES related news this year will be an ESO expansion.

@Mogan: But, what about the OG Elder scrolls fans like me? Who don't like MMOs. Don't we count?

Avatar image for Atzenkiller

@illegal_peanut: Only if you plan on making them plenty more money through buying stuff from the Creation Club. Otherwise no, you don't count.

Avatar image for mogan

@illegal_peanut: You've got a whole bunch of Elder Scrolls games to play already, and once they inevitably make the next one, you'll get to play that one too.

@Mogan: Yeah, these are games they shouldn't churn out every couple of years. First thing needed is big leaps in technology. No one wants sequels based on Skyrim engines where the only added thing is new map geometry and NPC dialogue that points us to fetch random items. The next game needs to bring A.I. and other revolutions

Looking at the games released this year I'm not convinced we've got that technology yet. Needs couple of years before even considering starting to actually make the game. For now I'm sure someone is sitting on drawing board thinking which region could be the setting and other general things about stories, characters, locations and new gameplay features.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: "these are games they shouldn't churn out every couple of years."

well, it's been over 6 years since skyrim came out... so it's pretty far from every couple of years.

i'd love to have a new elder scrolls come out soon.. but then i'd also like to win a couple hundred million dollars.. not really expecting either one to happen anytime soon (or at all) really.

Avatar image for CRUSHER88

@illegal_peanut: No, you don't.

Avatar image for swatleader

@illegal_peanut: Eso is more popular than ever. Also its existence has no effect on ES6

I thought Bethesda was making a new game that takes place in space, Starfield. I hope that is in E3 or they are planning to release on next-gen consoles. Gives them an edge in profits.

Avatar image for yosus

It would be great if we could get some new IPs. Prey was awesome last year.

Avatar image for mogan

@yosus: Looks like we'll be getting more Prey, too.

I hope see new Eder scroll game wrich not online better than Skyrim. And yes they show fallout 4 VR for PS4 . And hopeing to see new projects from them.

Avatar image for Ohaidere

I hope it's the next mainline ES game so that we can watch "gamers" complain about it for the entire dev period post announcement and then watch it dominate the open world landscape for the better part of a decade like Skyrim.

Avatar image for Brettsky128

Hoping for at least 3 more versions of Skyrim.

Avatar image for lionheartssj1

@Brettsky128: What's the over/under on Skyrims this year?

Avatar image for mogan

@lionheartssj1: At this point, I think somebody needs to release some hardware Skyrim isn't actually already on before they can port it some more. : p

I'm not getting my hopes up this time. Last year's was one of the most disappointing E3 conferences I've seen. With so little to show I'm not even sure why they decided to have one. Unless they announce BGS's new game or have some kind of big surprise from one of the other devs (who with the exception of Montreal have all recently released games if I'm not mistaken) there won't be much to get excited about.

Avatar image for Barighm

Hopefully they're getting Obsidian to do another ES/Fallout game, that way they can do a game while still taking a break from it, but other than that...anybody's guess. Probably announce one of those new franchises they're working on.

Avatar image for mogan

@Barighm: A new Obsidian Fallout would be great news. New Vegas is still the best game in the series, and still one of the best open world games yet.

Avatar image for hardcoregamer1

You know what we want, the next elder scrolls game so get to it.

Avatar image for mogan

@hardcoregamer1: I hope they don't. A new ES game at this E3 means they haven't taken their time to create new tech to build it on or think about how to meaningfully improve the formula. Fallout 4 was good, but it wasn't as good as it really should have been, and another half step up is just wasting resources and potential. The Bethesda open world game is real long in the tooth right now, and revitalizing it will take time.

@hardcoregamer1: Need to make sure they milk Skyrim to death before they even begin with ES 6

Avatar image for Barighm

@hardcoregamer1: They're taking a break from ES.

Avatar image for se7en1989

Is it going to be a 30 minute long video showcasing almost nothing anybody cares for again?

Avatar image for playstationzone

@se7en1989: lol ? I remember that last year 30 mins but to be fair it wasn’t worst than EA Games no one beat that.

Avatar image for pwgameverse12

Can't be worse than last year's conference, was absolutely dreadful

Avatar image for todddow

Really hope they get back to the Elder Scrolls. It's long overdue.

Why mention EA? Screw them.

Avatar image for Barighm

@todddow: Unlikely. They said recently they're taking a break from ES.

Avatar image for todddow

@Barighm: That would suck. They've already been on a long break from ES.

Avatar image for Iamkalell

@todddow: They've said they're working on two new projects that will be released before the next ES. If they are full sized games (they've said they are) and you figure three years of development on each game it could be 2024 before we get the next ES.

Avatar image for Lord_Sesshy

What else could they possibly do with Skyrim? We'll find out soon lol.

Avatar image for gamingdevil800

Last years show was very disappointing I was expecting some big reveal that never happened. Hopefully they announce whatever they have been working on since Fallout 4, the rumoured Starfield or something else.

Avatar image for barbarossa213

Hopefully something new!

... probably a re-release of Dishonored VR or something though.
