Best Cyber Monday Game Deals With Free Xbox Series X Upgrades
You can find plenty of Cyber Monday deals on Xbox One games, but some of them offer free Xbox Series X/S upgrades.
Cyber Monday 2020 features a ton of Xbox One titles, but new Xbox Series X|S owners are in luck. A number of Xbox games with Cyber Monday 2020 discounts include free upgrades to the Series X|S versions. Even if you haven't been able to pick up an Xbox Series X or Series S yet or are planning on getting one down the road, these Cyber Monday deals are worth checking out.
Some of these games support Microsoft's Smart Delivery system, while others (including those from EA) have their own specific upgrade paths. But the bottom line is the same: You can get buy cheap Xbox One games right now and get a fancy next-gen version for free. In the case of EA's games, it's time-limited, but you have until well into 2021 before the free upgrade offer expires.
Meanwhile, a pair of recent Ubisoft releases--Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion--are discounted right now, while first-party Microsoft games like Gears 5 and EA Sports games like Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21 are as well.
In the case of Smart Delivery games, the system auto-detects your hardware and serves up the version of the game optimized for it. That means that when you insert an upgradeable Xbox One disc into your Xbox Series X, it will just download any patches needed to enhance your experience. However, one thing to be aware of is that, without a disc drive in the Series S, the deals on physical games won't do you any good. But fortunately, the Xbox Live Black Friday sale is live with discounts on numerous digital games.

Control: Ultimate Edition

Control was an eerie action-adventure game centering around a mysterious paranormal agency, and one of our favorites of 2019. The Ultimate Edition includes the full game and its season pass with The Foundation and AWE expansions, along with a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X/S versions. The standard edition of Control doesn't include the free upgrade, though, so if you want that upgrade when it launches in early 2021, you may want to pick up the Ultimate Edition at a discount now.
Gears 5

Gears 5 is the latest in the long-running stop-and-pop cover shooter series, following up on The Coalition taking control of the series. Like all first-party Microsoft games it's included with Xbox Game Pass, but if you want to buy to own it you can grab it for just $5 at Best Buy. The package includes a ton of content include loads of multiplayer modes with seasonal content drops.
Madden NFL 21

Madden NFL 21 is the latest in EA's annual football series, so you mostly know what to expect. This year's entry includes a new mode called The Yard, with shorter backyard football style matches. A next-gen upgrade is coming on December 4, but if you grab it now you can be ready for the enhancements.
FIFA 21

Like Madden, this annual sports franchise remains mostly what you expect. But for soccer fans, there's just nowhere else to get your fix of action from the soccer pitch. This year brings back the street soccer Volta mode. And like Madden, a free upgrade is coming on December 4.
Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is the latest game in the popular looter-shooter franchise that made its name on a gazillion guns, give or take a jillion. Borderlands 3 has added tons of chaotic DLC with new worlds to explore, but this base version will get you started. Plus you can get boosted performance on your new console.
Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat 11 caps off the modern trilogy's story with a time-bending tale that puts many of your favorite characters face-to-face with themselves. Aside from the campaign, you can also take part in a number of online modes like ranked matches and the Towers of Time. It's gotten quite a bit of post-launch support, so you can pick between the standard edition for $13 or the DLC-packed Aftermath Kollection for $25. Aftermath includes a story expansion as well as the first eight DLC characters.
