It's coming next month.

Last Day of June, the beautiful, narrative-driven adventure game, is launching soon, the developer announced today. The game will be released on August 31 and it'll cost $20. Alongside this news, the developer published a new trailer that shows off a bit of what you can expect from it. You can see it below.

Last Day of June follows two characters, Carl and June, and focuses on a story of love and loss. According to the developer, it begins with Carl and June heading out for a laid-back, fun day, but it progresses into a struggle to save June's life.

The new trailer shows off one of the main gameplay mechanics, portals, which appear to allow Carl to revisit times in the past. To me, its art style is particularly striking. It looks like a watercolor painting with some Tim Burton inspiration thrown in. The creator of Murasaki Baby is working on it, and the parallels are easy to see.

The game is coming out for PS4 and PC. Preorders on PS4 opened today and come with a console theme; PS Plus subscribers can get 20% off preorders until August 18, which reduces the cost of the game to $16. You can see eight minutes of gameplay from E3 2017 here.

@dev-raid1: I'm pretty sure the 24th isn't the last day of the month, but close.

@dev-raid1: 2nd sentence of this article ;)

Edit: I believe this article is wrong on the date. Google searched it and found many sites saying the 31st. Thanks for making me look like an idiot gamespot!!! :/

Anyone know why this game is coming out on Windows 10 PC but not on Xbox One? What happened to the shared ecosystem? I've noticed this with several games lately(PS4/PC, no Xbox One)

@joshrmeyer: im pretty sure only those games published by microsoft, as a dev i wouldnt want my game given away on a platform that could hold possible sales, just me though

@dev-raid1: I'm not understanding your response... Are you saying only MS published games go to Xbox and PC? That's a handful of games lol. Oh maybe it's the shared ecosystem thing... It's just wierd that MS gives it the green light for Windows on PC but not Xbox One, or maybe it's not their decision... I don't know. Are you saying that because there's only 26 million Xbox Ones out there that it's not worth their(The devs) time? I don't think so... That's still a lot of potential sales. Sony doesn't have any exclusive deals with the games I'm referring to, so I'm not sure why MS wouldn't get them on Xbox. Another 505 game was rocket league which took almost a full year to get to Xbox One for some reason.

@joshrmeyer: no im saying, i believe the only games for sure going to both win10 pcs and xbox are MS published games..yes there will be games that come out for pc and xbox but that is not what im talking about...i was under the impression you were talking about the shared ecosystem crap..a regular dev wouldnt want to give the game away for free because you bought it once on a different platform

The inspiration is actually from Steven Wilson's "Drive Home". Don't watch the video if you don't want spoilers.

I like the look of the art direction, but the game looks a little depressing.

@barcaazul: Yeah, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, What Remains of Edith Finch, That Dragon Cancer, Firewatch, and even Life is Strange are all steeped in melancholy. Nothing wrong with that per se, but not something I'd want to play all the time.

@mdinger:

Yes exactly. Its good that games tackle real issues and emotions, but it can make some games more difficult to play.
