The CW's Batwoman premiered less than a year ago, but it's already undergone a major casting change. In May, star Ruby Rose revealed that she was stepping down from the lead role as Kate Kane. Instead of recasting the character, Season 2 will feature an entirely new Batwoman, Ryan Wilder, to be played by Javicia Leslie. The first image of Leslie in costume has now been revealed.

Leslie posted the picture herself on Instagram, wearing the familiar Batwoman costume against a black background. While the mask and red hair is very reminiscent of how Rose appeared, Leslie hinted that changes to her appearance are on the way. "Look out, Gotham, I'm suited up and ready to go," she writes. "But just wait until Ryan Wilder puts her own spin on the Batsuit." Check it out below.

Leslie also spoke about how Batwoman's appearance will change to reflect her character at the recent virtual event DC FanDome. "It's going to be a little bit of an evolution, we're going to see the suit evolve early on in the season," she said. "Ryan is like, 'For me to feel empowered in this thing, it needs to feel like I'm representing something that I'm fighting for.'"

"[Showrunner] Caroline [Dries and I] were also talking about how important it is that if we're going to have a Black Batwoman that she needs to be a sister when she becomes Batwoman," she continued. "It's important for the silhouette of her to still look like that: more of a natural texture hair and things like that."

Batwoman Season 2 doesn't have a premiere date yet, but with production now underway, we can expect it sometime in 2021. In related news, it was recently announced that upcoming sixth season of The CW's Supergirl will be the final one. Season 6 will include 20 episodes and will also premiere at some point in 2021.
