Electronic Arts has announced a free expansion for the cops-and-robbers shooter, Battlefield Hardline. Titled "Blackout," the DLC adds new maps (kind of; see below), guns, and gadgets, as well as a variety of gameplay improvements. As its name suggests, Blackout is a nighttime-themed expansion.

"What happens when the lights go out, and criminal and police factions are forced to face off under the slimmest sliver of light? Find out yourself," EA said in a blog post. Blackout includes the following, with descriptions written by EA:

  • Two maps: Night Job and Night Woods (night versions of Bank Job and Backwoods)
  • 1 new gadget: Night Vision Goggles
  • 2 new weapons for all classes and factions: a new version of the RO933 and a new Battle Rifle
  • New music, camos, assignments, patches, and more

On top of that, Blackout introduces improvements to Hardline's Spectator mode, though EA did not provide any specific details. Official patch notes will be released later.

A release date for Blackout was not announced, but EA said it should launch "soon."

Blackout follows Hardline's Criminal Activity and Robbery paid expansions, which were released earlier this year. Two additional paid add-ons, Getaway and Betrayal, are coming in 2016.
