Battlefield: Bad Company 3 will happen, says DICE

"The Bad Company [team] isn't forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation," says DICE creative director.

A third title in the Battlefield: Bad Company series will happen, DICE creative director Lars Gustavsson has said.

"My feeling is that I would love to do it. For me, when we started the company with 1942, it was really a work of passion," said Gustavsson at a press event reported by Polygon.

"And then we worked our way through the era of different wars, and I loved them all, like my little babies. When it came to Bad Company, it was creative freedom; don't take yourself too seriously."

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was released in 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, following the 2008 original in the offshoot series. The games cast players as Private Preston Marlowe, and featured a comedic cast of supporting characters in Private Terrence Sweetwater, George Gordon Haggard Jr., and squad leader Sergeant Samuel D. Redford.

"So I love it. I want to see it again," continued Gustavsson, "whether it can happen [right] now with the newly announced Mirrors Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront… but we'll see."

EA's E3 2013 press conference in June unveiled both Mirror's Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront, with both next-gen titles in development at DICE alongside the upcoming Battlefield 4. EA later said that it plans to rotate between Battlefield, Titanfall, and Star Wars: Battlefront as the publisher's main annual shooter.

EA has previously said that Bad Company 3 is not in active development at present.

"But trust me, the Bad Company [team] isn't forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation," he continued," concluded Gustavsson. "They are out there, they're coming back."

My absolute favourite online multiplayer experience was BF:BC2, put days into it. BF3 really lost a lot of the fun and replaced it with frustration...

@HapiJoel Yep. The rent-a-server crap took what was only an average game at best and made it just plain bad.

@Whiskey3romeo @HapiJoel You mean on BF3? Yeah, I don't mind having loads of servers to play on, but getting kicked for shooting the spineless server admin gets old reeeaal fast.

@RedKingShura mainly the story line. The BC games had a good, and very funny, single player element. Plus the level destruction was quite good.

I'm not like some on here though, I like them all, so I don't have a problem with BF3 or 4 bc it's the best FPS for me. I got SO burnt out on CoD with run-n-gun and no level destruction.

These sales stats will tell you everything about the trend of the Battlefield franchise.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - Over 6 million sales (Xbox 360 and PS3 combined).

Battlefield 3 - Over 13 million sales (Xbox 360 and PS3 combined).

Is there any wonder why the Bad Company series is on a "long vacation?"

I enjoyed BC2 thoroughly and didn't enjoy BF3 much at all... Must say I'm pretty excited about this news

Bad Company 2 is by far the most fun battlefield to play, with fun destruction elements and good map variety (unlike BF3, which I regret buying because of it being CODified). However, I fear that this COD element will be brought over to BC2 because of EA's greed.

Just be sure to make it like the first one: wide open levels and lots of lulz.

as long as they bring the humour back from the first game! it was an awesome game... they took all the humour away for the second game and made it much more bland like a regular military shooter.

I hope they don't imitate Activision and release a new BF game every year, alternating between the two.

@EatShanna You hope? It's already been happening for the last 2-3 years.

We already know it was coming, cause everyone loved Bad Company 2. I still like it better than BF3. The campaign characters are hilarious too.
