Battlefield: Bad Company 3 will happen, says DICE

"The Bad Company [team] isn't forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation," says DICE creative director.

A third title in the Battlefield: Bad Company series will happen, DICE creative director Lars Gustavsson has said.

No Caption Provided

"My feeling is that I would love to do it. For me, when we started the company with 1942, it was really a work of passion," said Gustavsson at a press event reported by Polygon.

"And then we worked our way through the era of different wars, and I loved them all, like my little babies. When it came to Bad Company, it was creative freedom; don't take yourself too seriously."

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was released in 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, following the 2008 original in the offshoot series. The games cast players as Private Preston Marlowe, and featured a comedic cast of supporting characters in Private Terrence Sweetwater, George Gordon Haggard Jr., and squad leader Sergeant Samuel D. Redford.

"So I love it. I want to see it again," continued Gustavsson, "whether it can happen [right] now with the newly announced Mirrors Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront… but we'll see."

EA's E3 2013 press conference in June unveiled both Mirror's Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront, with both next-gen titles in development at DICE alongside the upcoming Battlefield 4. EA later said that it plans to rotate between Battlefield, Titanfall, and Star Wars: Battlefront as the publisher's main annual shooter.

EA has previously said that Bad Company 3 is not in active development at present.

"But trust me, the Bad Company [team] isn't forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation," he continued," concluded Gustavsson. "They are out there, they're coming back."

Good news that they want to do BC3 but I'm a bit concerned about EA having not one but three annual FPSs on store shelves. Here's hoping they don't go down the lack of innovation route...

@mastaace46 @robertcain Why's that? Do you think it'll just be COD with giant mechs? I'm considering giving Titanfall a shot on PC once I build a good rig.

@robertcain @mastaace46 I wouldn't imagine battlefront will become an annual game considering its taking forever for this one. as for titanfall that one is a total miss for me.

Sure, but after Star Wars Battlefront and Mirror's Edge 2. Give Battlefield a break. Just focus on those two projects.

Good. Bad Company 2 was way better than battlefield 3 (singleplayer and multiplayer) Bring back the full destruction rather than Bf3 weird system

after playing quite a bit of the bf4 beta, you can definitely tell they amped up the destruction again.

@djpetitte @AttackOfTheCat hopefully its just the beta but I shot 3 rockets at a little wall and had absolutely no destruction. I was disappointed. nothing has compared to dropping mortars on a building in BC2 and watching it smash whoever was inside

Its because the of type of environment the map is, but they added a lot of the close quarters type destruction which was nice to see.

also the water looks very nice and the levolution adds quite a bit of fun. plus after the main point goes down it changes that area quite a bit. look. dust and rubble everywhere.

i disagree. bf3 was imo, look at all of the close quarter maps, even without those you have operation metro, grand bazaar, and siene crossing.

@deltron77 Agreed. BC1 in particular had a much different tone (BC2 got a bit too serious for my tastes), and the focus on destruction in the games gave it all a very unique feel for the genre. Battlefield 3 toned down the destruction in a lot of ways.

BC1's campaign was also what I'd consider the best of the Battlefield series thus far. Levels were generally very open and allowed lots of freedom in terms of how you approached and completed objectives - just like in multiplayer - and I hope a future Bad Company game will return to that sort of thing. BC2's campaign was much more scripted and less interesting to replay as a result, and BF3's was downright COD-esque.

Great, I liked the BC crew. They brought a much needed sense of humor to the mostly humorless military FPS genre.

Happy to see this.

I'm not sure what's with all the SP campaign hate? I liked Battlefield 3's SP, it was leagues better than the COD story.

i dont care about the single player characters in bc1 and bc2, its the multiplayer that was really good. bf3 was shit compaired to it, but as it stands right now bf3 is heavenly compaired to the bf4 beta. before any of you jump on my shit, i know its a beta, graphics, or its glitchyness isnt what bother me about it. this is the first time in 11 years ive thought about not getting a battlefield game.

@Adavanter couldn't agree more, I liked how they weren't as popular as BF has become. Most people I played against and with seemed to know how to play it. I understand that new people will take time to figure it out but it was ridiculous how many people still don't know or want to play BF the way it was intended

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! for saying that, its so true. i noticed in bf3 there was a trend of people who care more for kills then they do for helping their squad/team. bf was so much more fun before bf3. now playing the bf4 beta its even worse. i cant get ammo or health packs anymore, forget about staying in a squad when moving. also no one wants to talk, everyone has their mics off. its lost its mojo

I love how the ammo packs and boxes work now and the med packs. you can through them and people will absorb them or you can use them the old proximity way. My bud always play medic and he like the way the med packs, not the med boxes work. now he can follow people and throw them packs and don't have to worry about them staying around his med box to heal

@CallMeDuraSouka when people hear COD they think of the overwhelming amount of kids playing it. obviously there are kids playing all games but I have never had such a vocal annoyance on any other game like COD. Its such a pain in the ass having to go through and mute everyone just so I don't have to here some kid yelling about fucking somones mom when they most likely have personally never seen a naked woman in real life

I don't understand why DICE insisted in doing BF4 after 3. Was it just because of the COD series? Bad Company 2 was the best Single Player experience i had in a War driven FPS and it was mostly because of the humor and i want this back!. **** the struggle with COD and do your own stuff again DICE because it is the only way to really kick ass.

@Mar_Sama I think they just wanted their main-stream game on the new consoles. I'm quite a light battlefield player.. but BC was certainly my favourite.
