Battlefield: Bad Company 3 will happen, says DICE

"The Bad Company [team] isn't forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation," says DICE creative director.

A third title in the Battlefield: Bad Company series will happen, DICE creative director Lars Gustavsson has said.

No Caption Provided

"My feeling is that I would love to do it. For me, when we started the company with 1942, it was really a work of passion," said Gustavsson at a press event reported by Polygon.

"And then we worked our way through the era of different wars, and I loved them all, like my little babies. When it came to Bad Company, it was creative freedom; don't take yourself too seriously."

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was released in 2010 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, following the 2008 original in the offshoot series. The games cast players as Private Preston Marlowe, and featured a comedic cast of supporting characters in Private Terrence Sweetwater, George Gordon Haggard Jr., and squad leader Sergeant Samuel D. Redford.

"So I love it. I want to see it again," continued Gustavsson, "whether it can happen [right] now with the newly announced Mirrors Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront… but we'll see."

EA's E3 2013 press conference in June unveiled both Mirror's Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront, with both next-gen titles in development at DICE alongside the upcoming Battlefield 4. EA later said that it plans to rotate between Battlefield, Titanfall, and Star Wars: Battlefront as the publisher's main annual shooter.

EA has previously said that Bad Company 3 is not in active development at present.

"But trust me, the Bad Company [team] isn't forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation," he continued," concluded Gustavsson. "They are out there, they're coming back."

If DICE released BFBC2 with new gen graphics and a whole new map pack, I would never look back to any other shooter for more 2 years at least !

@roman4545 Thats not likely to happen in my opinion.

Since EA is rotating between 3 shooters, next year it will be TItanFall, DICE might release ME2, 2015 is for Battlefront, and 2016 is either BF5 or BFBC3.

TitanFall is definitely coming to PS4, it would make no sense from either logic or judging past events if it wouldnt.

@yeah_28 ok before i go to the offensive area... let me say i respect your opinion and im not saying your wrong just to be clear.

Titanfall coming on PS4 or not... isnt Titanfall release in spring ? if its true and it does release in spring then what EA has in store for fall 2014 against (probably another) Call Of Duty ? remember what i said in my previous comment ?

EA is in competition against Activision... What make you think 2014 EA will not release a FPS war game against another (probably) Call Of Duty ?

Now if only Titanfall really changes things up...

1. delay the game and make it to fall release schedule. Otherwise if it does release in spring what the hell EA has in store to fall 2014 since we all know Call Of Duty always release that time.

2. make it multiplatform.. not only X360, PC and (iPS4 like you said) but other platform aswell. Call Of Duty is on multi-platform on hell almost every damn system ! If Titanfall only stick to X360 and PC PS4 then its not multiplatform and will not attract gamers to play it.

@roman4545 I think TF is announced for Q2 2014, what you say is true, its just that i dont consider the release time to be that important, especially when its just one quarter before COD, its not like it comes in january.

So to me TF will totally compete with COD next year, also TF is not just any shooter, it has a lot of hype behind it, its not the same military theme of always, and its made by ex COD4 devs, its a bit more special than the usual.

After that yeah i agree they should try to make it multiplatform, and honestly, i wouldnt be surprised if it releases in Q2 for Xbone, X360, PC, and then in fall 2014, for PS3 and PS4, though im not betting on seeing a WiiU version.

@roman4545 Not going to happen, DICE said they're focusing on BF4, Batlefront and Mirror's Edge 2. They don't have the time or resources to release Bad Company 3 anytime soon. It's likely to get released after all those other games they mentioned. We're talking 2016 at the soonest.

@JLCrogue do you know its EA right ?... and you do know EA is in competition against Activision... What make you think 2014 EA will not release a FPS war game against another (probably) Call Of Duty ?

Medal of Honor is smoked out... Battlefield is already in present !... Titanfall is not gonna make its not on multiplatform.. so.. ? what EA would do ?

EA is already in motion to take down Activision to win their fans over for their product.

Yes Dice is currently making all those games but i doubt EA pushes Dice to make another FPS on the market in 2014.. first then other games.

@roman4545 @JLCrogue Respawn already said they aren't against bringing Titanfall to PS4.

My guess is it will launch after Sony's cloud servers go up in 2014.

Titanfall is on X1 and PC......So....it is multiplatform. Its more then likely a timed exclusive. Which Microsoft is notorious for doing.

Not sure why Bad Company and Battlefield series just ignored each other.

THe bad company series took place in modern times with a great cast. Why did BF find the need to place their franchise in modern times with horrible cast?

Basically long story short. If anyone wants to see the bitefrost engine take place in WW2 or in 2025 they might have to settle for a DLC (if lucky) or wait till BF 5.

BC1 is still my favorite BF title. Followed by BF 1942. I think BC2 played too much like COD and the classes were too mixed

I am more excited for this than any shooter since Halo 3. For real. Games that can effectively use physics and solid mechanics are the future. Well, they feel like the future to me. I got this feeling after playing both Bad Company 2, and Red Faction Guerrilla. They have so much more potential still.

I think I've logged more hours in BC2 than any shooter besides Halo 3. Can't wait. I hope EA's hopes for FPS dominance and CoD stuff doesn't influence the direction of BC3. I hope it's what the developers are passionate about making, and not what some guy in a suit thinks gamers want so they can make a bazillion dollars. Just make great games, the sales will follow.

@bschroth Sorry, but I gotta say: THANK YOU ! You are the first reasonable person that acknowledged Red Faction Guerrilla has REAL physics ! And it's a shame for DICE and its Frostbitch 1, 2, 3's fake physics !!!! Red Faction is from 2009, and despite its graphics ( which has nothing to do with physics ), the destruction is real, not pre-programed like BF3.... if anybody here has something to say about the destruction system from Frostbite, before anything, tell me if you can destroy something in different vectors of force and actually see the object falling to the opposite side of the force applied ! The answer is NO ! It's pre-programed !

I love that guerrilla has real physics. I never got why more people didn't like that game. I wish they'd bring back red faction for next gen to see what they could do with that kind of hardware.

I loved BFBC 1& 2. I mean I have played the BF series since the first game and have really enjoyed all of them (I missed 2142). Unfortunately BF3 just didn't feel right to me. I am probably in the 1% minority that didn't really like BF3. So news that BFBC3 could be a future release has me excited because Bad Company 2 was amazing fun. As far as BF4 goes. Currently playing the beta. Will withhold judgement until I can play it more.

@Takeno456 I play BF3 and now 4, because all my friends migrated to it. But I'm one of the few people that can really see the "cons" of BF3 and maybe 4 too. Sniping is horrible, the destruction system is not even close to what they promised, and the hit system is broken ! I'm a former USMC and I can't stand how fake the spread and recoil of the guns perform in that game !

I had 5x platinum on my M24 on BFBC2 and I could kill running targets ot the other side of the map, and now it's just a mess !

@Rage638 I agree with you, but my main reason to be frustraded with BF3 is because I only play Hardcore, and still, the snipers are 2 shots to kill ! Even the .338 LM which is a powerful caliber ( holder of the longest kill shot record ). I don't go for headshots, as I was trained, we always aim at "center of mass".

@houshidar Well, I'm a former military, so I must say that I'm a little picky when it comes to weapon performances ! My real life hobby is long range shooting, so when I'm not having fun at the range, I like to play games that can simulate with better precision ( I don't have a good PC, so I would be playing ARMA ). I know that we are far from real life performance, but some games have these tiny details that I take in consideration when I like or dislike a game. For example: Despite the fact that BFBC2 had no bipod or prone position ( which is wrong in terms of precision shooting ), its hit system was way better than BF3, regarding the damage, bullet drop, recoil, sound, etc.... BF3 have improved graphics, and their weapons mechanisms are more realistic, but people use to say that a game is better only because of graphics, which is totally wrong. Operation Flashpoint is 100x more realistic in terms of tactical operation but its graphics are horrible. BF3 have the worst recoil simulation of all games I've played. The spread chart for all weapons is completely ridiculous... You can shoot my AR-15 on full-auto (It's permited here) and still make better groups than shooting on semi-auto on BF3... There are no realistic damage regarding the difference between calibers, and there are too many weapons using the same caliber that perform totally different ! I don't believe they take in consideration the differences of barrel twist, barrel lenght, powder, brass, lead, and other factors that affect the precision, velocity, and energy of the projectile. So, it's ridiculous to have so many differences between rifles using the same caliber. just saying.

Well, returning to the sniping subject. BF3 snipers have bipods, and prone position, which makes easier to stop the crosshair sway, but the problem is with the hit system. I could hit moving targets on BFBC2 because I knew how the bullet trajectory would change according the distance and velocity... But at BF3 it's too inconsistent. The mildots on your scope don't reflect the variations of distance how they really should... And the "hold-breath" feature is ridiculous ! Not because we don't use that, but because it's implemented very badly ! Lots of other games have this feature much improved. And we release our breath, we don't hold it.

I don't want to describe every detail, but my feeling, with all these changes, is that I'm struggling against my own controller to stabilize and aim my shots at BF3; if we are talking about a game, it should be more user friendly, if we start to pick the "realistic" card, then I would say they are confusing realism with people without training ( which would make sense since the weapons are so shaky ).

@houshidar like adding an acog scope or a holo. or a red dot sight on a fucking bolt action sniper or on any sniper. I quit Bf3 because of that because you have assholes running around with a holo. scope bolt actuion sniper which is 1 shot kill on HC o and did I mention no bullet drop when using those scopes on a sniper? Yea that will be an example of "horrible sniping"

Honestly, they fulfilled my wish of making a proper new BF game with BF3 (I used to play BF2 extensively and while the Bad Company games were good...they didn't have the same feel in multiplayer) and now with BF4. So I would happily welcome a new Bad Company game. Then everybody is happy.

My problem is that it should have happened already. BF3 was the perfect chance to combine both Bad Company and the main series. Have Bad Company be the story mode(because we don't need no more serious drama related shooters) and just have the multiplayer be default battlefield. Everybody wins.

We already got Bad Company 3; it's called Battlefield 3.

(Put them side by side and you'll see how similar they really are.)

C'mon DICE, Battlefield 4 is already shaping up to be Battlefield 3 with a few new features. Look at your original formula! 1942, 2, 2142.

Give us a REAL Battlefield game.
