Battlefield 4 Gets "Core Gameplay Improvements" in Next Update

Soldier movement will now closely resemble Battlefield 3.

DICE plans to release a Battlefield 4 update in September that will include "core gameplay improvements," the developer has announced.

DICE has been working on the update for two months as part of its Community Test Environment (CTE), where its been testing improvements and changes to Battlefield 4 with the help of PC players since May.

One of the more interesting changes that will come in the update pertains to soldier movement, which DICE said has been made to closely match the one in Battlefield 3, but without compromising visual fidelity. This change should also make it easier to escape undesirable firefights.

Other major fixes in the update include tweaks to a number of game modes, a "de-cluttering" of the HUD/User Interface to show only what is most important, and a special effort to make revives easier to use and understand.

The update will also include more "netcode" improvements, which should further address the performance issues that Battlefield 4 has experienced since launch.

DICE said that CTE's next initiative is the Teamplay Initiative, which will include improvements to Commander mode, Squads, Field Upgrades, as well as further features and bug fixes.

For the full list of changes included in the next update and how to take part in the CTE, head over to the Battlefield Blog.

Thanks to Electronic Arts' Game Time promotion for Origin, you can also play Battlefield 4 for free for a week if you download the game before August 14, 10 AM PDT.

The next entry in the Battlefield series is Battlefield Hardline, which was recently delayed from fall 2014 to early 2015.

I see allot of hate in the comments, then again its easier to hate then praise, yes BF4 has tons of problems and yes its regrettable that it was launched like that, still to me it was worth the money, I bought the game and premium and don't regret, its still an amazing experience, not many games give you a feel that you are in an actual war zone, , it has the best MP map designs I'v seen in modern Fps add to it levolution that when implemented right its amazing and has great potential, and to me the game is superior to Bf3, I'v spend 400h on this game and so far, apart from Second Assault all DLC brought in great maps, and its getting better. AT least EA and Dice didn't abandon the game, like so many other games in the past few years.

Even with all its problems the Good aspects of this game outweighs the Bads, if it didn't there wouldn't be hundreds of servers full everyday. Granted that BF4 hasn't sell has much has Bf3 its still a great game.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Fiinally someone else that feels as I do up here. Even with all the issues it's still the most fun modern military multiplayer FPS ATM. Not to mention the only FPS that offers large scale combat. Until Planetside 2 drops atleast.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Complete Opposite here dude sounds like your riding DICE's nuts bf4 was one step forward, 2 backwards and bf3 has easily superior maps in everyway even bfbc2 have some better ones I have yet to find one map remotely enjoyable in bf4 only thing it has over the 2 is customization. Hopefully DICE can prove themselves with battlefront other than that it was a huge disappointment!

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I got a refund after 1 day of having the game coz it was unplayable. that's how much of a fail it was. Now they have to try and win people back from that. I dont think the hate is ever going to go away no matter what they do. The launch of a game is everything, the launch defines its identity because if its bad, like BF4 was, people will walk away, not give it a second chance and tell everyone. AAA game company's have become ignorant of this and think they can just keep pushing out bugy games and patch later.

me personally, because i got my money back I was able to and wanted to give them a second chance. I was held back because i did not want to pay for a full game just to see if its fixed or not . so i was glad to see this free week come up.

installed the game. set the new network option to high for the max server tick rate and i have to say I been loving it, lots of fun, like you said "the Good aspects of this game outweighs the Bads," at launch is was the other way round lol. Its only good news now that there not just fixing the game, they are changing the game.

I think i can understand or hope why they are only given the BF4:CTE to premium members. because they tend to be the more dedicated members that will help them out and not just trolls. however the problem is there is a lack of information to everyone eles of how much work they are doing. even this news bit by gamespot does not tell you alot.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> You do realize Bf4 will also have 30 right? BF4 right now has 26 and its missing the last DLC with will be another 4. also very diverse maps, but they are better structured with more cover and verticality. Overall BF4 maps make for a more Dynamic combat and increased tactical layer, Id know that since I'v also spend over 300h on Bf3. My only complaint is since BC2 the games lost the amazing destructibility BC2 had, BF4 has more of it but not near has good has BC2. And thats something they really need to think tro for the next iteration, and I'm not talking off hardline, to me that just feels like a mod for Bf4.

So they are just hating without actual knowledge, just because its "cool".

I'm not trying to defend the state this game was released in, but people act like ea is the only company that pulls this crap. Skyrim and new vegas were full of game breaking bugs, yet somehow they always get a pass.

I'm talking about launch bugs. Across all platforms skyrim was a mess. I still have mammoths drop out of the sky on my PC version. New vegas constantly crashes to desktop without fan made mods for me. Fallout 3 on PC refused to run on anything higher than a two core CPU for most people without some tinkering.

<< LINK REMOVED >> But I'm asking WHY are you having these issues - I'm not doubting you are, but myself and my friends haven't had any gamebreaking bugs in their titles, just minor glitch stuff. I have never experienced a mammoth dropping out of the sky, for example.

I'm talking launch bugs too - day 1 gaming with Skyrim, hundreds of hours into it, and I've never had these issues. To be clear, I'm not doubting you have these problems, but is it a luck of the draw thing? Some weird hardware compatibility issue that brings out a software bug? It just seems to weird that for some these are unplayable messes, and for others they are fine.

You're asking the wrong guy. My girlfriend played skyrim obsessively for a year, between my 360, and ps3, and she ran into a ton of quests that couldn't be finished due to one quark or another, loading freezes, ect. We're certainly not the only one, just go to online forums, and there riddled with people having the same problems to this day. It just seems to be a common, but not consistent problem. I really like Bethesda games, but they are always buggy, and no one seems to complain too much. If you'd like some examples just look up skyrim bugs on YouTube, it's quite entertaining in its own right.

New Vegas is essentially unplayable on any plat. I do agree with you that Bethesda seems to get a pass on the buggyvstuff they release. Skyrim was garbage on console but so far I have played a couple hours in PC and so far all is well. I don't have high hopes though.

@xantufrog @canuckbiker I played Skyrim on PC (without mods) for 25+ hours before I realized that basically ALL quests were broken and impossible to complete, and that the corruption had started so long ago that I would have to basically start the whole game over (which I never did...just uninstalled it).

Fallout New Vegas for PS3 took me 12 different attempts at installing over 4 days for it to actually install properly, and it may freeze up and crash randomly (and this was just a few weeks ago). Fallout 3 on PC would crash randomly too.

Despite having never had any issues with BF3, BF4 for PC has never worked well for me both in mutiplayer AND single player. To date, I've only played one full match without some kind of crash or connection problem (although I haven't played in a couple months). I've re-tried that game three times during several big, heavily publicized patch milestones, but it never fixed anything for me.

Out of hundreds of different games I've played in my life, these are the only titles I've ever had any real issues with. BF4 also has the distinction of the only game I've ever truly, deeply hated (and DICE along with it).

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I played the hell out of skyrim on the 360 and the only issues i recall was it freezing on the loading screen sometimes. Ive been playing a greatly modded version on PC lately and its been pretty bug free as well. Although one time when I started a new character I had to go through that opening scene 3 times because the carriage carrying me kept crashing for some reason and the game would not advance. Then it just fixed itself, and never happened again.

Sure, there are others, but the topic is on the Battlefield. Still, that's just me; you can make your own list of 'untrustworthy' developers.

I get that. Bf4 was a hot mess that should have been delayed until improved. Sad thing is it's hard to find any game these days that doesn't need massive patching after launch.

<< LINK REMOVED >> that's a bit of an exaggeration - I've seen my share of bugs in their games, but unless you're referring to the awful PS3 ports at launch this doesn't seem fair. The games have been pretty smooth sailing at launch for me on PC (and Fallout 3 was almost flawless on PS3 when I got around to buying it a while after release - so the patches seemed to do a good job)

Again I was talking about launch bugs. Bf4 isn't perfect, but it plays just fine on my ps4, and my bandwidth connection is laughable. I don't mind if a game needs some tweeking, but bf is consistently ridiculed, while Bethesda seems to never see much criticism. It just seems hypocritical.

atleast they are fixing it but by the time bf4 is fixed, there will no people playing it.

simcity, medal of honor warfighter, battlefield 4...all released broken. it doesn´t look good for battlefront.

it´s amazing how ea ruins games with so much potential.

@Razor10000 It's a classic EA trademark... releasing crap products with people who say, "Eh, I'm bored. Let's go see if we can finish fixing the game that came out months/year ago".

Stop crying. At least DICE LA is trying to fix all the mess EA and DICE Stockholm left in this game to make their quick profits on unfinished and unpolished product.

And yes it takes time, alot of time maybe a year or two or even more. Imagine they have picked up a 50% project that was forced to release by ea. In fact this game never released. It's still a beta and work in progress call it whatever you want for buying it - pre order, early access or whatever you want but it's not a released game and you can't judge it like a released game. Blame EA FOR THIS **** up and vote with your wallet in the future.

@Damnation_6 I think the spawn system is fine. It does warn you if you are spawning on a dangerous point and you get a view of the area on the map screen before you spawn. if you die a lot while spawning instead of spamming x pay attention to whats going on at that spawn points. you gotta be tactical even with your spawning on battlefield. think of it this way, in the real world would the army dispatch you from a helicopter or whatever right in the middle of the war zone?

my only gripe with the spawn system is players should not be allowed to spawn if enemys are within line of sight of the spawn point. this way other players won't see you just appear out of nowhere which can break immersion but its not a big deal really.

i still believe the only reason they really delayed hardline is because they want to squeeze more money out of bf4. no company would be thats stupid to release addons for a predecessor while pushing out a "sequel". this is what happens when you cater for COD players. you loose what makes your game unique. i still not surprised that Dice is still confused on why people loved bfbc2.
