Late last year, Battlefield developer DICE teased plans to offer even more Battlefield 4 DLC, but at the time, didn't say much about the form this content would take. Now, the studio has shed more light on the matter, announcing this week a first-of-its-kind campaign that will give Battlefield fans a chance to build Battlefield 4's next map together with DICE.

"You will get to shape a playable map based on your input and expertise on what makes a fun multiplayer level," developer DICE LA wrote on the Battlefield website.

DICE will start with a "blank canvas," and fans will get to decide what final form it takes. This map will be tested and tweaked on Battlefield 4's Community Test Environment by Battlefield 4 Premium subscribers.

Players will get to directly submit feedback to DICE LA regarding the new map. In addition, the studio will share "behind-the-scenes details" of what exactly it takes to build a Battlefield 4 multiplayer map from the ground up. A teaser video is available above.

The "Community Map" (hopefully its name changes for final release) will eventually be released for all Battlefield 4 players across console and PC as a free download. You can submit your feedback for this new map right now through the Battlefield 4 forums.

So far, players have already submitted ideas such as lockable doors, driveable submarines, and more. What would you like to see from a new Battlefield 4 map?

In addition, DICE LA has announced that it will release a "Winter Patch" for Battlefield 4 in March. This update, which follows the game's massive "Fall Patch," will offer tweaks to netcode and solider collision, and it also offers new changes to the Squad Obliteration game mode.

"Our ambition with Squad Obliteration is to create something fast and challenging for the players and an entertaining experience for those who watch the matches," DICE said.

While DICE LA continues to support Battlefield 4, Visceral Games is closing in on releasing Battlefield Hardline next month. Meanwhile, Battlefield 5 (or whatever EA decides to call the game) is in development and will be released in 2016. Main Battlefield studio DICE in Sweden is also working on Star Wars: Battlefront for release later this year.
