Battlefield 4 confirmed for fall 2013
DICE's new shooter arriving later this year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC; runs on Frostbite 3; 17-minute gameplay trailer revealed.
Electronic Arts confirmed today that Battlefield 4 will launch this fall. No platforms were named in the game's official announcement, but its preorder page lists the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. A 17-minute gameplay trailer is embedded below.
Battlefield 4 is powered by the Frostbite 3 engine, technology that EA said will "set a new standard for interactive entertainment in 2013."
EA described Battlefield 4 as a "seminal moment" for the series, noting that some of the franchise's multiplayer elements will be incorporated into single-player this time around. Battlefield 4's single-player campaign will also track players' progress, allowing gamers to compete head-to-head.
In addition, players will be able to issue squad commands in Battlefield 4's single-player campaign.
Lastly, EA announced today that those who preorder Battlefield 4 will receive a free "premium expansion." No further information about this add-on was divulged. A Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe edition for the PC will also be available exclusively through Origin. Gamers who preorder this version will also receive the aforementioned expansion, as well as access to the Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta.
