Having asked fans what classic map they wanted to see remade, EA found that Battlefield 2's Dragon Valley was a popular response. As a result, the map is now being remade as Dragon Valley 2015, which will be released in the free Legacy Operations DLC for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

That leaves Xbox 360 and PS3 players out in the cold, but this doesn't necessarily signal EA's intention to cease support for those platforms.

"We really wanted to push the envelope with Dragon Valley 2015, and that meant being able to make a bigger level, with a larger scale than anything currently in Battlefield 4," the company said on its website. "Because of that, we made the decision to focus on the more powerful platforms. This doesn't mean we're no longer supporting players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with critical updates when needed, but we really wanted to try something big for Dragon Valley, and we think that when you play it, you'll see the difference."

Dragon Valley 2015 will have more flags in Conquest mode than any other map in Battlefield 4 (and it'll support Rush, which didn't exist in Battlefield 2). Some things are being carried right over--such as the bridges that can be destroyed and repaired--while other aspects are being tweaked. For instance, the original version of the map was designed to compensate for Battlefield 2's poor draw distance. That required adjustments in the new game.

"We tackled this in several ways: First we increased the terrain verticality to closer mimic a real life Chinese river valley--and to give us more terrain occlusion for long distances, especially on the central island," the company explained. "We also added a dynamic cloud layer, which not only adds a welcomed air-to-ground separation in terms of gameplay, but also helps shroud far distances at ground level. This has the added bonus effect of allowing you to have intense aerial firefights above the cloud level, which looks really, really cool in Battlefield 4."

The Legacy Operations DLC will be out for free "later this year" alongside the Holiday update. While early DLC for the game did cost money, recent updates have added maps and other content for free.

I enjoyed this map back in BF2. It was nice to hear that old music in the trailer, it brought back the memories.

"make a bigger level, with a larger scale than anything currently in Battlefield 4"

-sigh-

BF4 maps are too big already, even with 64 players some maps feels empty.

It's good that they're still adding on to BF4. It was a very good game, and I'm sorry I traded this in for....BF Hardline -___-. Soooo, it looks like I will subscribe to EA Acess!

Too bad they woke up from the EA coma too late. I would have really enjoyed this in the main game but off course...nope..they had to rush it.

@jonexotic: a option in settings menu should be obligatory so people like me that can´t play games with lensflares can remove them. this way everyone can enjoy the game but devs don´t care so i don´t buy games with wierd filmic effects like lensflares, eyeball grime, chromatic aberration...which is most games this generation.

crysis 3 on old consoles have this option and so does project cars on ps4/xboxone. there is no reason for devs to not add the options on consoles.

It won't play like it did in BF2 though. The gameplay has changed too much.

@flames325: I disagree. But regardless, I don't see the point in putting these old maps into the series again because the battles have changed so much, it wont even feel like the same map.

@NoahRoalson: you're right it won't be the same

Karkand in BF3 showed how destruction changed the game, plus speed running the enemies back line isn't as effective since you can't blow up all the artillery/UAV etc

@NoahRoalson: Back then the mounted missile launchers were actually threats as well. I remember on this map you always had to constantly fire at them when approaching the flag because they were deadly. I don't remember if they were one shot kills, but they did a lot of damage. In BF3 and 4 they were just usually an inconvenience.

DICE and EA fucked up the launch of BF4. However, they have really stepped up post-launch support for the game and the community. Got to give them respect for that.

@BassMan: Game wasn't that f.cked up at launch. But now it is really fucked up. At least automatic weapons. I doubt I'll buy any BF anytime soon. Buying a game enjoying it and then out of nowhere DICE decided to break game mechanics. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

@jack00: I actually have never experienced issues with BF4 launch except the first 2 days with server problems, but shortly after that it took the crown of best current FPS (which it still is worthy of wearing, imo)

@jack00: No it's not. And it was perfectly playable on PS4 shortly after launch. Only last gen and certain PC set ups had bad issues.

@beuneus12: Yes, a long time ago and they continued to improve and add new things. They know they fucked up, but they certainly have made up for it.
