Free is a nice price.

EA and DICE's Battlefield 2042 is now free on PC through Steam, but only for a limited time. Everyone on Steam can download and play the military shooter for free until March 16, EA has announced.

It's a good time to jump in, too, as Season 4: Eleventh Hour was just released. It adds a new map and specialist, as well as a variety of updates and improvements. Newcomers can also check out the new class system, which aims to make the experience "more structured and understandable." The four traditional classes from past games--Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer--are now back in the game.

Now Playing: Battlefield 2042 | Development Update: Season 4, Classes, New Map, and More

Steam players can get Battlefield 2042 for free here on Steam. The console versions of Battlefield 2042 are not part of the freebie offer.

Season 4 is not the end of DICE's support for Battlefield 2042, as a fifth season has already been announced.

2021's Battlefield 2042 didn't land the way EA and DICE might have wanted, and management previously discussed the range of issues that led to this. The series remains a juggernaut, though, as 2042 was one of the best-selling games in the US in 2021.

More Battlefield games are now in development, including a single-player campaign from a Halo veteran.
