Battlefield 2018 Game To Be Revealed This Month
Battlefield will "never be the same."
An Easter egg in Battlefield 1 has led to a teaser for the next game in the franchise. A reveal date has been set for May 23, with the tagline "Never Be the Same." Further details are still unknown, but we should be finding out much more about Battlefield 2018 soon.
Eurogamer reports that a recent update to Battlefield 1 added a button system to the Fort de Vaux map, which corresponded with a door marked "Isolement" (roughly translated as solitary confinement). Pressing the buttons in the correct order opened the room to a cell, with a painting of a white horse and some leaky pipes. Those pipes were dripping in morse code, which the community decoded to spell out the URL ea.com/neverbethesame. That site has the May 23 date teased, along with the #Battlefield hashtag to make sure there's absolutely no confusion.
The tease is accompanied by the painting of the horse, with apparent dirt or tire tracks over it. We've heard reports that this next entry will be called Battlefield V, and like Call of Duty, it's said to be returning to the World War 2 setting. The classical painting of a horse having been scuffed by tire or tank treads could be a subtle hint at a theme of technology changing the nature of combat in WW2.
We've also heard that Battlefield will have a single-player campaign, co-op mode, and loot boxes. EA confirmed the single-player portion in an earnings call, but aside from that, everything from the setting to the modes has been left a mystery. Now, at least, we know when the mystery will end.
Battlefield, along with other games from EA's line-up, will be playable at EA Play this year, which will be at the Los Angeles' Hollywood Palladium from June 9-11. The now annual EA Play event is E3-adjacent, taking place just before the industry event kicks off on June 12.
