The French join the fight in March 2017 as the first of Battlefield 1's four expansions.

Update: For those who want Battlefield 1 and its Premium Pass, EA will offer an Ultimate Edition for $130. This consists of the game's deluxe edition and the Premium Pass. This is separate from the previously announced Collector's Edition, which apparently won't come with the Premium Pass.

Original Story: Battlefield 1's Premium Pass will include early access to new multiplayer maps, four digital expansions, and a range of new weapons, dog tags, and skins.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Battlefield 1 Premium Pass and First DLC Expansion Detailed

As detailed on the game's Origin page, it will cost $49.99/£39.99 and the first expansion for it is called "They Shall Not Pass." It will introduce the French army to DICE's large-scale World War I shooter from March 2017.

"Scout ahead with a two-week head start on four themed expansion packs. And France joins the fight in all new multiplayer maps," reads the product description. Following this, another expansion "will bring the Russian Empire into the battle."

Items such as weapons, dog tags, and skins will be delivered as monthly Battlepacks starting from November 2016.

"Get ready for new Operations and game modes, new Elite classes, weapons, vehicles, and more," the description continues. "The Battlefield 1 Premium Pass includes 16 new multiplayer maps, 20 new weapons, 14 unique dog tags, and 14 Battlefield 1 Battlepacks containing stand-out weapon skins. Each Battlepack is delivered monthly, starting November 2016."

Battlefield 1's release date has been confirmed as October 21. This is just a few days before Titanfall 2's October 28 release date. According to EA, having both games launch alongside each other will strengthen its position in the shooter genre, instead of cannibalising the sales of both game.

"[Shooters are] a giant category in our industry, $4.5 billion, there's a very broad and diverse set of players who are looking to fulfill different gameplay motivations," chief executive Andrew Wilson previously said. "Some people play very quick play, some people play more strategic, some people want both in different context.

"We feel we have a really strong position to deliver the broader set of gameplay mechanics as it relates to the first-person shooter genre across two titles. I feel very confident that we are well positioned to do very well in that category in the year."

Remember when BF:BC2 came out & Paddy Bach (Dice GM) said this: "We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together."..?

Yeah, me too...

@R4gn4r0k: Yet I bet your special ed ass dropped a lot more to play WOW like the zombies most gamers are today. 130 dollars for 30+ maps and 1000's of hours of entertainment on 60hz brand new backend servers is a good deal.

But laugh it off, and go buy COD.

What is the point of buying DLC? To play on maps that only 1/4 of the players will use? Then with every subsequent DLC, this number will be even lower. It seems like a better deal just to just buy the base game.

Its a shame considering Halo 5, Titanfall 2, and Uncharted 4 have done away with this awful concept. Splitting the community is such a terrible idea. However, the one thing Battlefield does have going for it is the server browser to just filter out the DLC maps.

If I've learnt something from BF4 and Hardline, it is to not buy Premium.

I don't get it, everybody is angry about DLC and Season Pass, but they keep buying them. If you want this to stop, you have to stop yourself from buying this crappy Season passes.

@LeonsKnnedy: Problem is as the content is produced and people play it, they realize it's not so crappy.

Nobody will stop buying content thats good. The request that everything be free, that's what people need to get past.

@dlaney34: If they wanna buy the product that's cool, but its stupid to complain about it and then buying it anyways, and it seem most gamer don't like how expensive gaming is becoming ($60 game plus $50 DLC = $110) but they can't help themselves from buying this games. I just find that weird. Its not like EA or any other company is putting a gun in your head and forcing you to buy their DLC and season passes.

Love BF, disappointed they haven't learned their lesson on DLC yet. Other FPS game companies have learned its better to not fragment the community and have other non pay to win options to monetize if they believe their business plan needs more revenue than the base purchase.

@xiricon: WHAT OTHER FPS doesn't have DLC. You're talking about nothing. "Learn their lesson" Yeah - EA, the most profitable game publisher this quarter, what lesson should they learn?

@xiricon: My point, and question stand : what other AAA shooter comes DLC free? Or, with FREE DLC only? on a base price of 59.99

Can you name ONE modern shooter?

Oh, I read your message just fine. It's just that fact's disagree with your sentiment.

@dlaney34: First, don't get me wrong, BF is my choice FPS. That is why I didn't list games that give DLC for free, but since you are insistent on proof, both Halo 5 (meh), and Rainbow Six: Siege (excellent) have free DLC in the form of maps.

So I didn't name just one, I named two.

But you are still missing the point and I'm not sure why you would argue that getting maps for free and have the companies boost their revenue in other ways would keep the community together and for longer. Not sure why you would disagree with that. BF and CoD get away with it, doesn't mean it is the best choice for the consumer.

Edit: I secretly hope that you work for EA, and have some level of authority to pass this message on. (Joking of course)

I'd much rather see a cosmetic store that sells things for real $$$ and have map packs for free... than to have this sort of community splitting expansion pack BS. *sigh* but I'll probably buy it, b/c I'm a sucker / slave.

Edit* PS. I'll certainly get my money's worth though... BF is one of those games that you can easily log 100's if not 1000's of hours into, and I've been really wanting a FPS that isn't near (or distant) future for a while now.

@whatsazerg: I agree. Been waiting for this game. No other game intrest me for the rest of the year so $130.00 will be given without a blink. Do I hate the dlc gimmicc? Of course, but its EA, the inventor of the 60 price tag on games. I dont see them ditching this model any time soon. Especially how enriched the franchise is compared to ANY other shooter on console.

So if the season pass is $50, is the base game $80? Sounds like a ripoff.

@lunchbox2042: It is very much a ripoff, for 50 bucks you should basically be getting a full game because thats what a full game costs about, instead you get a few extra maps that should have already been in the game. Its bullsh it....

The saddest part is the people(like me) would buy it anyway despite the high price tag and thus make the greedy more greedy. the climate change of the price tag is straight up high in recent years and we consumers cant help but buying since we love the content. This is two days work for me just to pay for the ultimate edition. I dare say what will happen in 3 years time if this keeps going like this.

How many years will people take to adapt to paid for DLC? It's like each new game release, it's some "surprise" to players that they'll have to pay for additional content.

It's been this way for 10 years, easily - yet people still whine and act like they are taken aback by having to pay for more.

Why should I pay more for a large pizza, when I already paid for this small one! Give me more for free!

@dlaney34: Because the pendulum seemed to be swinging in the opposite direction with AAA titles like Halo 5 and Overwatch (plus Titanfall 2 from what I hear) offering post-launch DLC like maps for free. Optional microtransactions to keep the money flowing seem to be working out well for them. Battlefield's always done the premium editions though I admit, I was kinda hoping they'd go the similar route.

@Black_Hand_313: People seem to forget DICE created 4 new community maps and new game modes for free in battlefield 4. The 10 base maps and all DLC, and campaign and new weapons is so much more content then any single game ever created for 60.00.

Basically people can't accept they are asking for more, for free - more then they've ever been given.

Again with the Premium crap? Why can't they come up with a better way to give us DLC?? Like, I don't know, giving it to us for FREE like they do with R6:S?? I know there is a difference in the two since R6S gets one or two maps with the DLC but still, $50 is overpriced!

@dlaney34: Im sure most ppl complaining are COD heads, so they have no clue of what a tru shooter is about. The content in game is more than filling. 50 buccs for all that additional content is a nice deal actually. I still play BF4 and also have the season pass and its been well worth the sticcer price.

The price hike on premium is shameful.

@troll_elite: fail troll is fail:

"During World War I, France was one of the Triple Entente powers allied against the Central Powers. Although fighting occurred worldwide, the bulk of the fighting in Europe occurred inBelgium, Luxembourg, France and Alsace-Lorraine along what came to be known as the Western Front, which consisted mainly of trench warfare. Specific operational, tactical, and strategic decisions by the high command on both sides of the conflict led to shifts in organizational capacity, as the French Army tried to respond to day-to-day fighting and long-term strategic and operational agendas. In particular, many problems caused the French high command to re-evaluate standard procedures, revise its command structures, re-equip the army, and to develop different tactical approaches."
