This morning, Electronic Arts confirmed that Battlefield 1942, the fast-paced first-person shooter from Digital Illusions, is set to ship to North American stores on September 10. The game went gold recently, and it wasn't originally scheduled for release until the final days of September.

Battlefield 1942 is a multiplayer-focused first-person shooter that re-creates 16 of the most well-known World War II battles across all four of the major campaigns: the Pacific, North Africa, Europe, and the Eastern Front. In addition to giving players access to a number of different weapons and character classes, the game also has a number of accessable air, sea, and land vehicles like the P-51 Mustang, B-17 bomber, and Sherman tank, as well as massive ships like the USS Yorktown. We'll have more information on this highly anticipated game soon.
