Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions have today announced that a new multiplayer expansion pack for Battlefield 1942 is currently in development. Secret Weapons of WWII will introduce numerous new weapons and vehicles to the multiplayer battlefield--many of which never actually made it out of the German and Allied laboratories into real-life combat. The expansion pack will also introduce British Commando and German Elite troops to the game, along with a new objective-based gameplay mode in which players will need to complete a mission such as destroying a secret facility to win the battle. Secret Weapons of WWII will also feature a total of eight new World War II combat campaigns, taking in such locations as Peenemuende, a V2 research facility, and Hitler's hideaway The Eagle's Nest.

Complementing the existing Battlefield 1942 arsenal, Secret Weapons of WWII will add a total of seven new weapons to the game including the Bren light machine gun, Remington Auto 5 shotgun, Mauser K98 grenade rifle, and one-shot kill knives. The total of 30 vehicles included in Battlefield 1942 will also receive a significant boost, as Secret Weapons of WWII features no less than 16 new fighter planes, tanks, aircraft carriers, and the like. The Horton HO 229 flying wing, US T95/T28 super heavy tank, Sturmtiger tank, US Goblin Jetfighter, American Armstrong Whitworth AW-52 advanced fighter, and German Natter rocket plane are all among the new vehicles that players will be able to take control of in the game, along with Germany's prototype Rocket Pack, which will allow players to fly and fight at the same time.

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII is currently scheduled for release this fall. We'll bring you more information on the expansion pack as it becomes available.
