[Update] Batman: Arkham Knight's PC problems and the resulting repercussions have now spread to physical copies of the game. An employee for UK retailer Game has told Eurogamer that it is "not allowed to sell" the game as Warner Bros. has requested the retailer cease supplying the title while its problems are remedied.[Update ends]

After a string of reports about PC performance issues, Batman: Arkham Knight is being taken off the Steam store temporarily. The news was posted on Steam today by Gary Lake-Schaal, VP of Game Technology at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. In it, he apologises for the performance issues being experienced by owners of the PC version of the game and states that future game sales will be suspended while they work out the problems. The same post was also made on the official Warner Bros. forums. GameSpot reached out to Warner Bros. who has confirmed the authenticity of the post.

The post opens with:

"We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards. We greatly value our customers and know that while there are a significant amount of players who are enjoying the game on PC, we want to do whatever we can to make the experience better for PC players overall"

Players are also reminded that they can flag issues they are experiencing in the game with Warner Bros. customer support. Refunds can also be requested via Steam or at the retailer where the game was purchased.

Earlier today it was reported that the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight was carrying a number of prominent bugs and glitches, especially for players who were using AMD graphics cards. Developer Rocksteady has released a statement in response to this, stating: "We're aware that some users are reporting performance issues with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. This is something that Rocksteady takes very seriously. We are working closely with our external PC development partner to make sure these issues get resolved as quickly as possible."

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Absolutely the right move by Warner Bros. to suspend sales until they fix it. Looks like a mega-corporation got a hard lesson in fundamental business practices -- deliver a good product to all its customers, not just a marginal majority and hope that the rest don't mind getting dinked after shelling out their money. The offer for a refund is also a good move to soothe that client relationship and may be enough of a goodwill gesture to convince some to leave their money on the table, so to speak, and see how quickly the game can be made right.

PC gaming got a little more of the spotlight at E3 this year, and sales have obviously sustained the PC segment of the market for a long time now. Publishers and developers can't afford to treat such a large portion of their customers with less care than the console groups. I had Arkham Knight high on my wish list, but was going to wait a while to see how well it released. Guess I'm glad I waited, although if I had given them my money, I might be one of those waiting patiently to see what comes next.

Good luck to all.

They had plenty of time to ensure that this game is "without any problems". However, this is not the case, why?. More and more this problem to get something out vs. doing it correct the first time sucks. We, the buyers are the ones who suffers. It is time that we stop buying inferior products, but there is no way to tell until it is played, sucks period. I will put this game on the shelf, until it is fixed.

Apologize accepted. As a fan of Batman and your works, you guys deserved an apologies from us, if I must say.

Building a Batman that meet fans expectations wasn't an easy job, well, even I experienced such great dissapointment while playing it on PC with Nvidia cards. I still believe the game can be fixed.

Good Luck AK Teams

@pedrolopes1313: that's pointless. Of course PC is more powerful and more capable for better graphics and overall gaming experience than consoles. It's like saying the sky is blue. This here is prime example of laziness and mistreat of that particular platform for known reasons. ...

@jay34mcr: They already delayed PC version of Syndicate. It doesn't have a release date yet. Just sometime after console release.

There literally were almost 300,000 owners on Steam alone, before the massive refunds. So, anyone saying developers don't/shouldn't care about PC is pretty stupid. PC sales accounted for 1.3 million of the Witcher 3's 4 million sold in the first two weeks.

Pc gaming is no longer niche it's a huge market. Give us a good port and we will reward you.

@hard_serpent: This has nothing to do with the PC as a platform and everything to do with the developers releasing a terrible version of the game on that platform.

@Tiger_Ali: You have a strange definition of the word 'garbage'.

Because if PC is 'garbage', and runs any game - that isn't broken - at superior fps and graphics than Ps4, what exactly are the consoles?

In other words, stop talking out of your arse.

Only a fool would think the consoles have more power and are better optimized . The PC is the superior platform in terms of performance and hardware. This catastrophic launch relies solely on the dev for pushing it off to a 3rd part to port the PC version. The fact is during development you build teh game for least powerful system and port it to the rest. Since consoles are the weakest they built for there and ported up

@skyline5gtr: wth are you talking about there was no third party port of this game for pc. wheres your proof?this is all rocksteady's fault. and this is one issue the pc has always had just never on this scale. its usually certain cards not all of them. and this happens on alot of games even on consoles just not to this scale.

@deathblow3: "there was no third party port of this game for pc. wheres your proof?"

The proof is Rocksteady's official statement: "We are working closely with our external PC development partner to make sure these issues get resolved as quickly as possible."

End of game credits for Arkham Knight confirm that this "external PC development partner" is a developer named Iron Galaxy Studios who also did the Arkham Origins port for Windows.

@skyline5gtr: Every game released on PC, no matter how buggy and crappy it is at launch still looks better and plays better when it's all said and done. Whether fixed via patches or mods, I will happily wait a couple weeks/months for a better playing experience. PC gives me freedom, it gives me power only limited by my wallet. As long as developers continue to release titles for PC, PC will be my dominant platform.

@Bryjoered07: It is true, its also harder to develop on since PC always has bleeding tech and everyone has a mish mash of parts. When you develop on console you know exactly what parts you deving for.

I personally do it for the 144hz , i just cannot stand 30fps anymore

@skyline5gtr:superior performance? console players are playing their copies. rant was dumb. i own a great gaming pc and its clear games just come broken. graphics being better doesnt mean superior performance as this launch has proved. every platform has its problems but theres no denying unless your a fanboy that pc has the most.

@haze0986: I love how many little boys there are that "own" a great gaming PC yet still prefer consoles. It's simply not true. Anybody with a high end gaming PC would game on it, it's better literally in every conceivable way. Barring this horrendous port, even bad ports normally look and play better on PC. The backlash you normally see is because we get upset when games come barebones with only higher resolutions and no optimized performance for PC. Batman is an exception and not the rule, it was literally so bad they SUSPENDED sale of the game. I can't remember when that has happened before.

Even the semi buggy and downgraded Witcher 3, looked better and played better at launch over consoles. Now, Witcher 3 smokes consoles and the same will be true for Batman. So what? We have to wait 3 weeks for a superior product? Good.

Keep playing your console over your "great gaming PC" ROFL

@Bryjoered07: Your crazy I would never play and game on console if it came out in good quality on PC. You cannot beat 144hz , if i game is 30 fps on console it is just too slow for me and I cannot stand it any more

@haze0986: stop being a troll I have every console as well, Consoles have hardware 3-4 years out already and are capped at 60 fps. PC have the superior parts, the problem is developers like i said develop for the lowest common denominator aka the consoles because if they actually developed it for the PC consoles would not be able to run it. Most the broken games are multi platform releases.

The problem is the developers always porting this crap to PC as oppose to making a version for it, look at any PC only release they usually function great can get as many frames as you can produce

The right move for WB would be for someone to actually run the game on PC before its release

It's not that hard to press the On button on PC.

Also,i hope they give the season pass for free and the ps4 exclusive missions as a recompense for this.

@bdous: They likely did, the problems aren't happening for every PC user and given companies tendency to have standard uniform computers throughout the workplace it could easily be a case that all the computers for the group developing the game ran the game just fine and they weren't aware of the issues.

@phoenix1289: Problems ARE on all PC's, they don't even have all the game effects enabled! Regardless of performance the game is missing visuals touches, and the performance issues are too wide spread to shrug it off, they knew the game was busted but released it anyway.

And why ? Because Rocksteady outsourced the PC development to a small studio with little resume. Colonial Marines clusterfuck all over again. Wish companies like that go under.

What a debacle. I still want to play the game because I love the whole Arkham series, but Im understandably disgusted with the rushed port for such a high profile release. If they dont patch it within the next 2 weeks Im just getting my money back and forgetting about it for a few years..
