Batman: Arkham Knight PC Players Are Still Having Problems After Re-Release

Players indicate the updated version still doesn't provide an optimal gameplay experience.

Batman: Arkham Knight players have reported the re-released PC version still has numerous performance issues ranging from stuttering to DLC compatibility.

Arkham Knight was originally released in June alongside the console versions, but was later pulled due to numerous bugs and other issues.

When the game was made available again on Steam, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment noted there is "a hard drive paging issue with some GPUs on Windows 7 that may occur after extended gameplay sessions." The solution provided to remedy this was to "re-launch the game."

Additionally, it advised players on Windows 10 that having "at least 12GB of system RAM allows the game to operate without paging and provides a smoother gameplay experience." Prior to launch, the game's PC system requirements indicated 8GB of RAM would be enough to run the game at Ultra settings, suggesting there have been optimisation issues.

Since the re-release the Arkham Knight discussion board on Steam has updated with numerous threads discussing ongoing issues with the game beyond those highlighted by Warner Bros.

"With the latest patch, my HDD indicator does not stop blinking at all and the game stutters everywhere," says user Rock1m1. "Especially when you try to drive like day one."

Sentled added: "Arkham Knight won't start/launch after its 're-release' patch. It keeps crashing after you click 'Play' on Steam and Windows shuts it down when Batman's portrait appears on screen."

Others have raised issues with frequent stuttering, issues with smoke rendering, and compatibility problems with downloadable content--many of these are running Windows 10.

"The game runs mostly at 60 fps for me, some frame drops in the batmobile, and i get the stuttering during cutscenes, but other than that it runs fine. But that was exactly how it ran for me on the day it launched, all these patches did absolutely nothing for me."

The lack of SLI and Crossfire support, meanwhile, is something Warner has said it is "still working with our partners to add."

According to Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, which has extensively investigated the game's performance since launch, "Batman: Arkham Knight [on PC] today has seen no further improvements from its interim patch back in September."

It also worth noting that some players have also said their gameplay experience hasn't been as problematic.

"No issues here either. 90 G-Sync Frames Per Second everywhere," said Vulcan.

ikarikun2015 added: "Runs fine here: 1080p, high settings, no gameworks, 55-60 FPS, i5-4400, GTX 970, 8GB RAM."

Given the complexity of PC configurations and the sheer number of them, persisting issues may be due to hardware or driver compatibility. Warner Bros. has said it is working with its partners to "address stability issues on certain cards related to the latest drivers."

oh master race...always so troublesome. I'd rather have an old Atari than deal with all the PC issues every time a game comes out. Just ridiculous.

@kenpachi212: if you have issues every time a game comes out, than you don't know how to use a computer. You're the one with issues.

@kenpachi212: If you're playing on a console, you pretty much ARE using an old Atari. Keep reaching for those 1080p/60FPS stars* (* means a decade old standard that even "Next Generation" stresses to achieve, let alone maintain)

@aegis_kleais:You actually don't know some people simply don't give a darn about UXMegaTurboHD resolution and 3 gazillions of FPS. Like people who only cares about enjoying great story & great gameplay. Back in the days, of things like NES, Atari, Coleco,..., we couldn't care less about graphics... It was all about the gameplay and story. Just like the basic Nintendo game design rule : is the game fun to play ?

@Saidrex: jajaja, would you like a band aid for your butt hurt? PC gamers are like fragile little girls, they cry over any comment over their overpriced rigs. If your butt hurts too much go get it stitched up.

@kenpachi212:

This is the exception. A rare one actually. Most multiplat games run fine on PC.

@slappy54: Yeah, and if anything, the fault here isn't with the hardware. It's poorly optimized software; a fault of the developer; has nothing to do with our rigs.

@aegis_kleais: So, you really don't understand anything about software. The problems of performance lacking PC ports had EVERYTHING to do with your rigs.

With the tons of different hardware, driver versions (as not everybody is really running the latest for every hardware in their computer, i.e. I'm talking to you chipset drivers...), OS versions and configs and 3rd party app installed that may have an impact even if they are not running while playing, optimizing software is a real challenge on the PC platform compared to consoles which, escially in this gen, are on really similar hardware (outside for the WiiU) and with consistant, controlled hardware and OS.

That doesn't remove the fault from developpers to releasing half-baked games, but their issues/lack of time with optimizing games for PC has everything to do with the platform concept since the advent of the "IBM-PC Compatible".

I knew there was a reason I have always detested gaming on a pc and would never ever consider buying a game outside of football manager for one

@Huantalahnmi: That's not the point. This game was designed to run on consoles that have similar processing power to a next gen cellphone. Whatever they're doing in that dev studio isn't cutting the cheese here. If it can run on my PS4 it should be able to run on my girlfriends 680 with room to spare for her Skyrim addiction.

And I'm just sitting here playing Arkham knight on my Fx-8350 with R9 280x +16GB with 60+ avg FPS, without any stuttering and on a mechanical hard drive.

I thought this was an Nvidia optimized game.

By the time I play it, my lowered expectations will probably turn this game into a masterpiece. On another note, PC gaming...

I switched exclusively to PC about two years ago, and this was the first big hiccup in that transition, but I was a HUGE Arkham series fan, so this one took me awhile to get over. I realize I need a console for emergencies. Although, saying "F*ck You!" to publishers/devs helps you deal with missing out on something other people are enjoying.

@PS2fweak: If you can wait, I suggest torrenting the game on PC, its really the best option, if the game gets fixed anytime of course.

I understand you really love the series, but please dont teach them that if they completely screw over PC users they shouldn't worry cause people'll get it for a console then. Don't pay them.

Never really had a terrible lot of bother with it before, apart from some serious fps drops when using the tow cable on the batmobile. Seems to me they're going with the idea, if you throw enough hardware at it, it'll work just fine.lol

Issues? the game runs much better than it did at launch, I'm now getting constant 60fps at 1080p as opposed to launch which dipped below 30 and had stuttering issues, and mind you I have windows 10 and 8GB RAM, you can't really trust the judgement of some people, I ran to an idiot who was complaining about the game being poor optimized....and he had an i3 and a GTX650 which were below the minimum requirement, and then others that wanted the game to run at 4k with an SLI setting without problem (when has a multi-gpu setting ever work without problems?) I say wait for professional performance reviewers like digital foundry to give a more genuine evaluation, most people are just full of bias because of what happened at launch.

@mikemurphy80: I said more genuine evaluation, as in videos with proper test setup and fps charts, not some vague initial impression.

SLI doesn't work properly yet, that's the only issue I've had since launch, everything else works fine, if I switch to 1 GPU the game runs fine
