A long-awaited update patch, expected to fix a litany of problems with the PC edition of Batman: Arkham Knight, is now live on Steam.

Rocksteady's latest action game has been delisted from the Steam store since June, when customers discovered an extraordinary number of graphical and performance bugs and glitches.

Fans expect this PC patch to remedy the vast majority of the game's technical problems. The update was accidentally deployed to a small number of users on Wednesday, whose early impressions were thoroughly positive.

Details of Warner Bros' latest patch can be found below.

Batman: Arkham Knight PC Patch Notes

  • Reduced frame rate hitches
  • Optimizations for system memory and VRAM usage
  • Improved performance on all GPUs (requires the latest drivers)
  • More Comprehensive In-Game Settings
  • Fixed low resolution texture bugs
  • Fixed hitches when running on mechanical hard drives (HDD)

Warner Bros has also listed issues that it wants to tackle in future updates. They are:

  • Adding support for SLI and Crossfire
  • Adding support for the latest DLC & Season Pass content
  • Adding support for additional updates such as Photo Mode
  • Continued improvements and bug fixing for a Windows 7 specific memory issue that occurs on configurations with 8GB of system RAM and some NVIDIA GPUs during extended game play
  • Continued improvements for Windows 10 specific issues on systems with some AMD GPUs

A spokesperson for Warner Bros wrote on Steam: "We would like to thank everyone for their patience and invaluable feedback. We’ll provide ongoing updates here as they are made available. In the meantime, please enjoy the game with the latest patch."

Batman: Arkham Knight shipped on June 23 across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. However, upon release, a mass of reports from players had indicated that the PC edition was in an incomplete state.

That led to a punishing two weeks for the publisher, as fans continued to discover a whole range of technical problems with the PC build. After apologising and announcing its intention to build a patch to fix the numerous problems, Warner Bros decided to pull the title from Steam. The game had been unavailable on PC since.

Developer Rocksteady recently released a statement saying it was working on remedying the port's problems, while more significant ongoing work was being done.

Posting on Twitter, studio co-founder and director of the Batman: Arkham series, Sefton Hill, said the studio has its "best engineers" helping to fix the issues.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros was accused of having known of Arkham Knight's PC Problems "for months" prior to release, however these claims--purportedly from internal QA employees--are not proven.

At the time of going to press, Batman: Arkham Knight appears to still be unavailable on the Steam store.

Game is officially fixed for me. And I am loving it. Best Batman game so far. Best story by a mile. Batmobile gameplay is underrated in my opinion. Very well balanced.

Happy to say they did a good job of fixing it.

I've been playing this the last couple of days (on PS4 so I can trade later) and having a total blast with it. I think this is a rare occasion that the GS review was a little harsh. Shame about the PC version taking so long - but it's worth the wait! If you're just picking it up and are familiar with the franchise, I recommend starting on hard difficulty..

Still runs fine for me after the patch, honestly I haven't had much of performance or graphical issues since launch. I can say the patch has made it a lot smoother in my opinion, still a minor freeze when calling the Batmobile but not like the 2 second or so freeze I did have before the patch. I have everything set to max except my shadow quality, which I set to normal so I can be in acceptable VRAM usage on my GTX 980.

@oCAFFEINEo: From what I've read over time with this, it's mainly users with AMD cards that are experiencing trouble with this game frequently crashing or failing to load textures etc, apparently not really Nvidia though. ;-/

True, just saying I read and heard reports that Nvidia peeps were also experiencing a lot of problems. But I stand corrected from my earlier post, turns out even with the September 03, 2015 patch, the game is still not performance perfect. I still got the 2 second or so freezing when calling the Batmobile and when driving the Riddler to GCPD, holy cow was I experiencing a lot of performance and frame rate issues. So yeah, they still need to work on it.

I downloaded the game from Steam today. The game is completely and utterly unplayable in any way. Either Steam hasn't used the patch yet or the game is still terribly broken.

@robert3892: I was playing it fine before the steam patch. Now graphic glitches, stuttering, very annoying. Good thing already finished it at 83% complete.

@ScarshiSame problem here.. Was playing it just fine prior to the patch that was forced on me by stem, now I can't play it at all.. Stupid lazy game devs! What GFX card do you have? I have a GTX 970..:

@jrsii69: Yup. I'm on a MSI GTX 970OC. Graphic texture flickering to the point I have to restart to make it go away.

Now playable on my 290 with everything maxed out with this patch. All the Nvidia stuff switched off obviously.

@malachi: nice. I'm running dual 290s and the game played like I had a 15 year old GPU installed. Completely and utterly sucked. So it's running nice now? Might have to actually install the game now again...

Avatar image for malachi

@naomha1: Yep, tried it on my main gaming PC this morning and works just aswell with crossfire enabled on my 290's. Just make sure you install the latest AMD beta drivers.

everyone should boycott any publisher for not having equal support across different gaming platform that have substantial installed user base. This is 2015 and bad port shouldn't exist anymore or prepare for repercussion.

  • Adding support for the latest DLC & Season Pass content

You should give all DLC to PC owners for free, considering the game wasn't worth paying for before.

Too late. I don't pre-order because I'm not an idiot and now I'm addicted to rocket league.

Avatar image for RedWave247
RedWave247

Well, I tested it out last night. It does run smoother and the texture quality appears to have improved. So I'm glad those fixes finally went through.

Overall, I still regret pre-ordering this. This was the game I got a new gaming PC rig for, rather than a PS4. And honestly, even overlooking all the technical issues, the game itself disappointed me. It's not by any means a bad game. I'd say it's quite good. It just doesn't hold a candle to its predecessors. There's far too much over reliance on the Batmobile for most of the game and the tank battles are nowhere near as engaging or versatile as the brawling or predator modes.

The ending was incredibly disappointing, as well, especially the final mission, which wasn't even a boss battle. Worse, it had less to do with Scarecrow and more to do with the surprise third villain of the game. This should've been Scarecrow's big game where he takes the spotlight, giving us all sorts of cool stuff like we saw in Arkham Asylum. Instead, he basically takes THIRD place in a game with three major villains in the main storyline. So we get one surprise villain who already had enough spotlight in other games and a second villain whose identity is blatantly obvious from the very start.

@RedWave247: I love all 3 Arkham games that Rocksteady developed but to me Arkham Knight is the best in the series. The batmobile was an awesome addition in my opinion. This is by far is my favorite game of 2015 so far.

Avatar image for RedWave247
RedWave247

@RedChuckz: It was an awesome addition, but it was way too overused, leaving less room for brawling or stealth, the two best parts of the whole series, as I'm sure you'd agree. Plus, as I said, there were no satisfying boss fights. Certainly none on the same level as Mr. Freeze in Arkham City.

@RedWave247: If you are buying gaming PC just for one game, you are waste of your money period.

Avatar image for RedWave247

@MetaMods: I didn't. It was a motivating factor, but since I wouldn't be able to play it on my PS3, it was either a gaming PC or a PS4. And at least with a PC, I can carry over my Steam library to a new system, unlike a PS4.

The problem with AK wasn't PC having more hardware types; it was woeful neglect.

Stop perpetuating this idea that piracy on PC is this HUGE insurmountable problem. 90% piracy rate? What a joke. The console piracy 'market' is a thing as well. All you're doing is fuelling the typical console fanboy ignorance of "PC are all piratz"

Absolutely true. There's a great deal of piracy in consoles too. It's just a matter of time before someone hack the PS4 or Xone and the lucky platform will see a boost in hardware sales. Pirate games made the PS one, PS2, Xbox 360 winners of their respective generation.

Whoever said the opposite hasn't been in countries where the price for original games is one month of hard earned money for a worker with a minimun wage and the pirate games are a great relief...

For all those rightfully suspicious of any WB PC games after this disaster I'm happy to report Mad Max is a good pc port. In fact it is superb and one of the best ports the last few years.

Full mousecontrol both in menues and in game, no mouse accelleration, forced auto aim or other console plagues. Optionsmenu is one of the best I've seen on later major releases only lacking minor stuff like alternate bindings. They even included nice tooltips for those not sure what all the options does.

Runs buttersmooth 144fps 95% of the time at max on my system but with the ammount of options available easily optimisable for even weaker pc's. It does drop around 10 frames when a sandstorm hits, but not noticable running at such high frames.

Kudos to Avalanche for making good pc ports, Just cause 2 was also a good pc port and the Mad Max ports bodes well for Just cause 3. It doesn't feel like "just a port", it feels like this version was made for pc from the ground up.

how could it not be ? avalanche studio does great ports and develops for pc, just look at just cause 2...also the graphics on mad max are VERY LAST GEN, not demanding at all.

@razor_rj: I certainly don't agree with you that it looks last gen (at max settings) although, yes it is a desert so obviously there is less to render. But how taxing a game is doesn't say anything about how good or bad a port is.

Avatar image for razor_rj

i saw the threads on steam, lots of low res models, textures and stuff, the game is light, even just cause 2 is better visually, do you own the game ? maybe it doesnt feel (noticeable) while playing, but it certainly stand out on pictures.

I had no issues on Win8.1 64bit. Played it since Day 1. Finished campaign. Only a few, rare framedrops related to Nvidia Gameworks.

On Win 10, APEXTurbulance and extra Debris made the game crash (for me). Now it runs fine. It is a technically impressive game. And one of the best action games I have played in recent years. Batmobile works great as an additional game mechanic and the story is fantastic.
