Remastered versions of Warner Bros.' acclaimed action titles, Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, are expected to be remastered for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

IGN Italy claims that the two games will arrive on current-generation consoles by Christmas, suggesting that Batman Arkham Origins, which was developed at Warner Bros. Montreal, would not be given the same upgrade.

Warner Bros. has yet to announce the game or verify the rumor. The corporation declined to comment when approached by GameSpot.

Should the rumor prove to be true, it would mean the remaster would come months after the release of Batman Arkham Knight--believed to be the third and conclusive chapter in the trilogy, developed by London studio Rocksteady.

The first two Batman Arkham games gained near-unanimous praise from critics. GameSpot's Arkham Asylum review explained: "Everything about this game--the impressive visuals, stirring soundtrack, superb voice acting, fiendish puzzles, hard-hitting combat--feels like it has been lovingly crafted by a development team that's both knowledgeable and passionate about the source material. Miss out on this one and the joke's on you."

Its successor, Arkham City, was also rated highly: "From the speedy exhilaration of soaring high above the streets to the atmospheric thrill of discovering long-forgotten secrets in the tunnels below Gotham, this is an unforgettable adventure that will keep you coming back to the cape and cowl long after you've seen the credits roll."

Originally intended to be released in 2014, Batman Arkham Knight's release date has been delayed again, this time to June 23. The game is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more, check out some select images in the gallery below.

Too many brash, ignorant comments from sections of the PC fan base. Do you guys have no better work ? I am a PC gamer too and it annoys me to see some of these PC 'master race' bozos come in here and talk trash about console gaming in general. First of all, I welcome these remasters from the perspective of people who strictly play on consoles since the games will surely be 1080p at 60 fps with enhanced visuals. That's indeed a huge step up from the previous gen's 720p/30 fps. As a PC gamer who is used to playing at 1080p/1440p and in some cases even 2560p or 4K, I can attest to how different that is compared to gaming at lower resolutions and 30 fps. So definitely, these remasters are a positive. Whether people buy them or not is subjective and shouldn't be leveraged as a means to insult console gaming. As PC gamers, we only need to look at Arkham Knight to see how bad the PC release was and still is while the game continues to perform and sell well on console systems.

Does anyone know the real reason why Warner Bros Montreal won't let Arkham Origins get upgraded with Asylum and City?

@jkl55400: Yea, I want Origins too (don't hate). Are AA & AC still being remastered? This was from March. I'd buy all 3 of them B-)

It seems a little unnecessary to me. I agree with some other posters, if they really do want to do this they should have done it prior to AK's release. Honestly, they probably could have not made origins and just made the remasters but that's just me hating lol

Having played the PC versions of both games, I can safely say that console gamers are in for a treat.

The current PS4 remastering trend is panning out great for gamers. Sony have a great strategy. They give you the PS3 game for free on PSN Plus 12 months before the remaster is announced in order to remind everyone how good it was and introduce it to new gamers who never indulged.

Once everyone is hooked they announce the PS4 remaster so you can play the game 'properly'. Everybody wins, because those who cannot afford the remaster get to play the PS3 version for free, so it's a real nice version of capitalism.

I give credit where credit is due. That is not kissing ass. The remasterthon is not perfect I know because you will always get publishers jumping on the bandwagon remastering games that are not worthy of a remaster. That is not Sony's fault. Sony only remaster 1st party games that are true classics with a huge fanbase wanting it. The market remasters the rest.

The reason I give Sony praise with this strategy is because it creates a situation where devs give you free AAA games on PS3 as part of their PS4 remaster publicity stunt. Free game content without gimping is great for gamers not corporations. Whether the gamer likes what he is playing and decides to buy the remaster to play it in quality is up to him. Not you or I.

Too late. If they wanted to do it, they should have done it BEFORE the release of Arkham Knight. Although the way things are going with that game, it is still possible.

Wow the generation of remasters, 98% of this gens games will be from last gen. I would be almost tempted to get it, simply because with my broken PS3 I no longer have access to Asylum. But at the same time I don't want to support this.

That a bitter pill you are swallowing. Nobody is forcing you to support anything. If you want to play the game in superb quality, buy the remaster on PS4. If not, spend your money else where. Simple. Nobody died, so no need to go on a moral crusade.

I wouldn't buy it. Just get another PS3. They're cheap anyway, and the games are dirt cheap compared to these remasters.

<< LINK REMOVED >> shoot, if you have a chance to buy a great game, buy it.

I hate remasters, but i bought GoW Saga and Ico/Shadows remaster in a heart beat cause it was cheaper that way and i missed out on them.

I would rather have backward compatibility, but if you can give me the game cheaper, ill buy it.

Look forward not back. I want better quality from the PS4 not the same PS3 crap we had in the past with all the screen tear and blurred monotone graphics. If a PS3 game is on PS4 I want a remaster bringing it up to speed, not the same PS3 quality via 'simulated backwards compatibility'.

How isn't it slowing things down? A project doesn't go the same speed if you take people away from it. 250 people - 50 people =\= 250 people. These remasters don't just appear. Time goes into them.

Normally I would say remaster?!?! Who Cares! but for those people just getting a PS4 (as their first console? o_O) and haven't played these games there is a lot of fun to be had. Thank god they didn't include Origins in the collection, honestly do yourself a favor and just skip it. You're not gonna miss out on anything when Arkham Knight comes out. Rocksteady did an amazing job with the 1st one (Arkham Asylum) and I hope they knock it out the park with Arkham Knight too. *fingers crossed* Happy Gaming, Everybody! [Dr.Nick voice]

Interesting, the team that delays their game ends up announcing some remasters. What could they be doing with that extra time?
