Of all the films to get made into video games, the Oscar-nominated black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin would seem one of the most unlikely. But perhaps that's the point, as there's now a Pac-Man-style tribute to the game that's surprisingly fun to pick up and play.

In the game, titled Banshees The Game you play as Colm (Brendan Gleeson), who is trying to escape from the dull, talkative Pádraic (Colin Farrell). You must collect all five of his fingers in the maze and escape to the pub in the center. Eventually, more characters from the film populate the maze, including the beloved donkey Jenny.

The game is the creation is Cogs & Marvel, an Irish "experiential agency." "There was something really fun about taking such a dark, atmospheric piece of storytelling and representing it through the saturated optics of retro gaming," said Jon Hozier-Byrne, creative director of the agency. "That juxtaposition is very entertaining to me."

The Banshees of Inisherin, widely-considered one of the best films of 2022, features Colm and Pádraic navigating the sudden breakup of a lifelong friendship, set against the end of the Irish Civil War. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards, but failed to win any of them.
