Bandai's Pet Due for Christmas

It'll be one holiday bird you won't want to stuff.

For some time now, it has been known that Bandai is hard at work at several console versions of its virtual pet, Tamagotchi. The Game Boy version of the game has already shown up in Japan, where it's been met with huge success, and even was bundled along with a pink colored Game Boy Pocket.

For the Nintendo 64 version of the game, Bandai is taking the pets one step further. The full translation of the game's title is "64 De Hakken!! Minnna De Tamagotchi World." The game is different in that it takes place on a game board, complete with dice. You move your Tama around the board, watching it grow.

Of course, the purpose of the game remains intact - raise a virtual pet the best you can and see how it turns out. You can bet that there will be several secret characters hidden inside as well. Tamagotchi World (which the 64-bit version is now called), will be available in December for 6800 yen (a little under US$70).

A PlayStation Tamagotchi game is also in development.
