It's destiny; every Baldur's Gate game is certain to take the player to the titular city. Baldur's Gate 3 is no different and developers Larian Studios are finally showing off their take on the fantasy metropolis.

In a new video, developers talk about the design and process of building Baldur's Gate in the upcoming game. The city is seamlessly connected, meaning individual areas are not broken up by loading screens. Crowds and NPCs wander the streets and will react to player behavior. The city also acts as a narrative climax, with multiple plotlines before you arrive coming to a head within the walls of Baldur's Gate.

According to the developers, the city was not originally intended to be one massive area. Changes in development meant that the team spent three or four times the amount of time it expected. Swen Vicke, creative director at Larian, said about Baldur's Gate, "the thing I was the most afraid of when we started marking this game turned out to be the thing I am the most proud of."

At Summer Gate Fest, Jason Isaacs was revealed as the voice actor of one of the game's principle villains. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently in early access on Steam. The full game will release on PC and PS5 on August 31. An Xbox release is also in development.
