The Baldur's Gate 3 Half-Orc class is an absolute powerhouse that can decimate enemy forces. This is primarily due to its features and mechanics, making it a viable tank and melee DPS unit. Our guide discusses what you can expect when you make a Half-Orc character in the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 Half-Orc Race Guide

The Baldur's Gate 3 Half-Orc is one of 11 races that you can choose from during character creation. It has the following features:

  • Base racial speed - Nine meters per turn.
  • Darkvision - Can see in the dark up to 12 meters.
  • Relentless Endurance - If you reach zero HP, you regain 1 HP instead of becoming downed.
  • Savage Attacks - When you land a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, your damage dice are tripled instead of doubled.

Relentless Endurance ensures that you can survive fatal hits, which are bound to happen if you're in the thick of the fray. Savage Attacks, meanwhile, greatly increases the potential damage that you deal. And, of course, there's Darkvision, which improves your hit chance in dimly lit areas.

The Half-Orc has perks that greatly benefit melee classes.

Best Classes for Half-Orcs

Because of the above quirks, we feel that the best class for the Baldur's Gate 3 Half-Orc is one that focuses primarily on melee combat. There are three notable options:

Barbarian - Barbarians use Rage to fuel their attacks, allowing them to cause tremendous damage. We recommend the Berserker subclass since it receives terrific boons that increase its DPS significantly.

Fighter - The Fighter is also another versatile class, which can use melee weapons, ranged weapons, and even magic. However, among its subclasses, we prefer the Battle Master. This is due to its maneuvers, special actions that can trip, push, or make you do a riposte, in conjunction with your attacks.

Paladin - The third option is the Paladin. This is a warrior clad in light, whose strikes also cause radiant damage. While its four subclasses are viable, we happen to like the Oath of the Ancients, thanks to its additional healing mechanics.

The three classes mentioned above tend to wield two-handed/great weapons, which also means going for the Great Weapon Master feat at level 4. This complements the Half-Orc's own capabilities.

Baldur's Gate 3 is filled to the brim with activities and secrets. You'll no doubt be part of an adventure that can take countless hours to complete. For other tips, you can visit our BG3 guides hub.
