Avengers Star Doesn't Think a Guardians of the Galaxy Crossover Will Happen Soon

"I wouldn't be Hawkeye anymore. I'll be a dead guy!"

While The Avengers remain Marvel Studios' most iconic team, there's no denying that the huge success of Guardians of the Galaxy has made those titular intergalactic oddballs a hot cinematic property. Ever since Guardians was released in summer 2014, there has been much speculation about when the two teams would eventually meet, especially as Marvel has already mapped out its release slate all the way to 2019.

Now Avengers star Jeremy Renner has weighed in on the subject. Comicbook.com have reported that the star--who plays Hawkeye--feels it is unlikely that a team-up would happen anytime soon. "There's already a lot of people in the Avengers!" he joked at the Wizard World Chicago panel, before telling the fan who asked about a possible crossover: "You'll be eighty years by then, and I wouldn't be Hawkeye anymore. I'll be a dead guy!"

In December last year, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn also addressed the question. He told Screenjunkies that while his film did exist in the same universe as the Avengers and the other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, it doesn't automatically mean that the properties would cross over.

"We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don't think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all this," he said. "We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers' province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it's going to happen."

The next Avengers movies will be the two parts of Infinity War, scheduled for the summers of 2018 and 2019. Guardians of the Galaxy 2, meanwhile, will arrive in cinemas on May 5, 2017, with Gunn directing once more.
