Avengers Rumor: Chris Evans Discusses If He'll Come Back To Play Captain America

"It's news to me."

Captain America actor Chris Evans has responded to the rumor that Marvel might be plotting to get the original Avengers crew back together to make a new film to help reinvigorate the MCU. Speaking to The View, Evans said if this is a real possibility, no one has reached out to him about it yet.

"I always see those reports too--it's news to me. I think every couple of months someone says, 'They're getting Downey and Hemsworth and Scarlett, and everyone's coming back,'" Evans said. "No one has spoken to me about it."

In the event that Evans would be asked to come back to play Captain America again, how would he feel? Evans isn't ruling it out, but it doesn't sound very likely either.

"I would never say never, but I am very protective. It's a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right," he said.

Evans made his debut as Captain America in the 2011 original movie, before reprising the role in its sequels, in addition to playing the part in the Avengers movies. The next Captain America movie, Brave New World, features Anthony Mackie playing Captain America.

Variety reported that Marvel was considering trying to get Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson to come back to play Iron Man and Black Widow again, with the suggestion being that the entire team would assemble again, including Evans as Captain America. The report made it clear that Marvel "hasn't yet committed to the idea" and that nothing was official.

Before this, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige responded to the report, saying, "I've literally not even seen that; is that a new rumor?" Johansson, meanwhile, said it would take a miracle for it to happen.

For now, the next Marvel movie fans have to look forward to is Deadpool 3, which is the only Marvel movie scheduled for 2024.
