Avengers: Endgame Is Going To Be Very Long, And Marvel Is OK With That

It's so exciting you might not get up to pee.

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have reaffirmed that the current cut of the much-anticipated film is three hours long; the editing process isn't over yet, but it appears Endgame will end up being the longest Marvel movie ever.

Asked by Collider if Marvel and Disney are OK with Endgame running for as long as Titanic, the Russo brothers said Marvel/Disney are "down with what the best story is," even at three hours.

Now Playing: Avengers: Endgame Is Going To Be A Very Long Movie - GameSpot Universe News Update

Endgame is so long because it's said to wrap up a story that started 22 movies ago. Not only that, but extra time is required for scenes to allow the film to deliver emotional resonance, they said.

"Right now, we think the movie is playing well and we've had great responses from our test audiences and we're feeling very good about where it is," they said. "We're still doing work to it. We're not done with it. Again, this is a culmination film of 22 movies, it's a lot of storytelling to work into it. Emotion is an intrinsic part of that to us. When you have to tell a really complicated story and you want strong emotional moments with the characters, it just requires a certain amount of real estate. This one, in particular, feels like three hours worth of real estate."

They added that in the four screenings for test audiences so far, not one person has left their chair to use the bathroom.

For comparison, Avengers: Infinity War was already a long movie, running for two hours and 40 minutes.

Endgame hits theatres in the US on April 26. A new trailer for it was shown during the Super Bowl this weekend; for more, check out GameSpot's Endgame trailer breakdown in the video embed above. The movie will be preceded by one other Marvel film, Captain Marvel, which releases in March.

The Avengers are the Wu-Tang Clan of the movie industry in so many ways, most of which are not great. There’s only one Method Man. The rest of it is meh at best. Similarly, there’s only one Tony Stark. The rest are just supporting cast passed off as lead characters in second rate spinoff movies. No matter how many of these jobbers you stuff into a can labelled “The Avengers” it’s still just Tony Stark and everyone else.

@pongman75: Redman isn’t part of the Wu. That’s not an opinion that’s a fact. I agree he’s a great rapper. That’s an opinion.

Understand the difference?

@ZombieVirolina: Actually opinions are nothing like assholes. Assholes are essential. You couldn’t survive without one. Opinions on the other hand, are optional. Thanks for reminding me of that. I almost forgot that I was posting on a comment thread to an article about a movie about a comic book on a video game website.

Lol. The level of butthurt in this place is unreal.

@pittsburghler: The term "butthurt" is a cop-out for saying things you know are going to be controversial and divisive, but don't want to own any of it. First Amendment works both ways, chief.

BTW - With the frequency of your replies to the people that disagree with you, opinions seem to be more essential to you than your asshole. ?‍♂️

@pittsburghler: When you say "butthurt", you attempt to dismiss and throw away any reply to anything controversial you say when you created the controversy. Putting your name on something isn't "ownership" (especially when it is a screen name). Facing criticism head on for the things you said without one word dismissals is.

@pittsburghler: I'm not arguing with you. I challenge you to find one sentence of me shooting anything ad hominem about you. I'm simply pointing out the cowardice in your posting style. And the whole "thin skinned" thing...we call that "projection". Hence your obsession to kneejerk reply and use magic bullet cop-outs.

@ZombieVirolina: So I come on this site to post an opinion and your response is “opinions are like assholes.” That was a very substantive response. You’re right. I should have dignified that scholarly observation of yours with something more intelligent than an attempt at humor. I’m sorry that it and the rest of my comments which had nothing to do with you and we’ren’t directed toward you triggered you this badly that you’re spending your Saturday advocating for some deeper meaning to the term “butthurt”.

Seriously. You need to take a deep breath and count to four or something. I don’t know. You’re pretty jammed up right now.

@pittsburghler: Pot meet kettle. You wait by your email to see if someone replies and you are right here. That is the real definition of everything you accuse me of. From “triggered”, to “spending your Saturday”, to being “jammed up”. I mean, you just typed a paragraph and a half to tell me why you don’t care. ?

@pittsburghler: I especially don't understand the dude with arrows. I'm not really a fan of superhero stuff bar Watchmen but there is a lot of fat in Avengers movies for the sake of it. Many characters have little relevance and the plots are almost always insulting to one's intelligence but the humour tends to be okay.

@Sound_Demon: They have to pay lip service to obscure, irrelevant characters to maintain their street cred with guys like @HarlemVIP who consider it their solemn duty to pick apart everything because they’re always right and they’re not afraid to tell you so from behind their keyboard.

Seriously, that’s a tough crowd. So yeah, better get arrow dude in there.

I'm not the target audience, so I don't have anything good to say about the first LIE they put out and labeled it Infinity War. I agree with what somebody said below....MAKE IT 4 HOURS!!! Even though it's clearly gonna be another LIE of a story, it's still a freaking HUGE story with a ton of moving parts. There's no way to 2-hour this one. I say go for the full Monty and make it 4 hours....with about 5 after credit scenes.

And even though the russo brothers are two huge pieces of sh*t to me for admittedly Micheal Bay-ing that first movie, I have been singing their praises since that second trailer came out for giving us.....N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!!! That's exactly what you're SUPPOSED TO DO with movie trailers. I am so damn tired of 17 damn movie trailers for one damn movie, giving you every damn detail about the damn movie, even the damn ending to the damn movie. They made me so proud with that trailer. Hopefully they will not put anything else out and just let the movie itself do all the talking.

Sigh....okay, consider this my very last time lowering what's left of my education to such a low level to respond to mental midgets....

Look, dumb ass....

Had I been the target audience, there would be NO criticism from me what-so-ever, now would there? Had I been the target audience, I'd be sitting here joining the masses COMPLETELY IGNORING the real story and feeding into this make believe BULLSH*T that was shoveled down everybody's throats, now wouldn't I? Had I been the target audience....hell....I WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE PAID TO SEE THE FIRST MOVIE TO BEGIN WITH AND NOT DOWNLOAD THE DAMN THING LIKE I DO WITH EVERYTHING, NOW WOULDN'T I!?!!?!? Everything I said in my initial post is 100% valid and is explained...but only people on the level of donald trump mentally would have some dumb f*ck response like yours.

F8cking moron.

Have fun talking to yourself after this. I won't be responding again

@pongman75: The target audience are the people who....

Okay, if this were a Star Trek movie, the target audience would be the not-so-Trekkie Trekkies. In other words, if I made a Star Trek film where Spock was Black, and people didn't want my head on a pike, THEY are the target audience. The ones who just accept it because it LOOKS good and has familiar names in there, screw whatever REALLY happened in the real story, check out these explosions and fight scenes.

THAT is what a target audience is. And I am not that. And by the way, saying it's not a real story makes no sense. Because neither is Harry Potter, but people would lose their collective sh*t if Harry showed up as an Asian chick in a wheel chair in one of his movies. So try again.

@HarlemVIP: You might not respond to it but I know you’ll read it. Your profanity makes your argument so much more compelling and your excessive use of CAPS is very Trumpian indeed. I actually thought you were him for a moment until you put me in my place by bragging about your piracy. Yiou’d think with all that education you could afford a ticket and some popcorn. Enjoy hating the movie.

@pongman75: “you’re“ not “youre”.

See? I can do it too. An isolated typo doesn’t speak to my education, it speaks to my clumsy thumbs. “Your” complete disregard for the use of apostrophes in conjunctions however, well. . . It speaks for itself doesn’t it? “You’re” both uneducated and too careless to employ autocorrect to conceal “your” lack of grammar skills.

@pittsburghler My lack of grammar skills pales in comparison to what youve made yourself look like here. We (the REAL GS community) jab jokes at each other all the time here. There are people here whom Ive known for years by holding logical conversations with. Then there are people like you who have a grand total of 17 comments made. You are a hater, and you need some kind of vindication or attention seems like. You can say what you like, but I just dont see you offering anything logical to back yourself up with the BS comments you made above. IGN sounds like a better place for you. Im not here to argue with kids. But feel free to vindicate yourself below, I wont be reading it just like the good decision HarlemVIP made. Bye

I am very pleased, nothing kills a movie more than being overly cut down to fit a stupid time frame. Justice League was a clear example of rushed out the door without not nearly enough time to develop its characters.

I'm fine with 3 hours. If its ending a whole chunk of over 20 movies that tie together, I would prefer a long movie that really ties up all the stories with a satisfactory ending. No need to rush this one.

Personally I think execs should have more faith in the attention of the audience, there are too many movies that have been cut to hell and it turns out terrible (example: every DCEU movie except WW and Aquaman).

Though I hope it's 3 hours of a good film rather than what Infinity war or black panther was.

@kanekan-slaugh: It's not just audience attention span. Run time has an impact on ticket sales - theaters generally have to reduce number of showings. Not a big deal overall perhaps, but impacts opening weekend numbers, which I'm sure is something they care a lot about.

Bummed you didn't like IW or BP. I thought they were both amazing pieces of entertainment. Especially compared to Age of Ultron, which I thought was pretty mediocre.

I thought both Infinity War and Black Panther were supremely good especially Infinity War. My only gripe is we didn't get see enough of the aftermath of the snap you know all the chaos and Fallout from ppl randomly disappearing cars crashing planes crashing trucks crashing satalites falling from the sky crazy shit like that. And then have a scene with all the ground level Netflix heros helping save ppl.
