Australia's Gran Turismo 5 champion crowned
Melbourne student Daniel Holland claims pole position in the Australian leg of the Nissan GT Academy competition.
While Gran Turismo 5's release date is still up in the air, Australia's GT5 champion has already been crowned. Earlier this week, 16 players from around Australia were flown to Melbourne by Sony to compete against one another in an exclusive competition, with Melbourne student Daniel Holland bringing it home. This marks the end of the Aussie round of the Nissan GT Academy, a competition where entrants recorded their best times via the PlayStation Network. As the name of the competition suggests, the drivers were limited to using a Nissan vehicle--the Nissan 370Z to be precise--and raced on the Silverstone track.
Holland will now travel to the real Silverstone track in the UK at the end of the month, where he and 17 other competitors from around the world will go through a crash course in professional driving. From there, the two candidates who show the most potential will then be taken to a proper driving program that will help them qualify for an international driving license. The driver who demonstrates the best skills during the process will then race an entire season in the European GT4 Cup, driving a Nissan 370z.
