Nintendo Australia has confirmed a digital-only release for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge on the Wii U. The game will be available exclusively on the Nintendo eShop from tomorrow (May 11) for A$79.95.

The Team Ninja-developed action adventure game will not be released through Australian retailers, despite receiving a physical release in Europe.

The Wii U version of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge is a port of Ninja Gaiden 3, adding new features, including three weapons and two ninpo, and it includes Ayane as a playable character. The game was previously exclusive to the Wii U, but was ported to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and released last month.

The game was notably the first game to receive the R18+ rating for video games when it was introduced to Australia in January this year. According to the Classification Board of Australia, the game was classified R18+ for its "high impact bloody violence."

GameSpot contacted Nintendo to confirm why Australia would receive a digital-only release. Nintendo was unable to provide comment at the time of publication.
