Aussie game charts: January 5-11

Nintendo continues its Aussie charts domination in 2009.

If 2008 taught us anything, it's that Nintendo is here to stay as the dominant force in the Australian game charts. We're now two weeks into the new year and it looks like that trend is going to continue, with Nintendo's Wii Play and Wii Remote bundle maintaining its lead at the top of the Australian game charts, according to data trackers GfK Australia.

Retaining their positions from the previous week, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit remain in second and third places, respectively, for the week of January 5 to 11. Continuing its on-and-off relationship with the overall game chart, Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for the Wii took out fourth place. Resistance 2 found its mark in fifth place, making it the first non-Wii game to appear in last week's list of best-sellers. Activision's latest movie-licensed game, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa for the Nintendo DS, has moved up into sixth place. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain claimed the seventh position, whereas the sequel More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain can be found several slots below it in 10th. The second PlayStation 3 game to make it into the top 10 was Call of Duty: World at War at number eight, with the PC version just below it in ninth place.
