Activision's Skylanders series will be expanding with the addition of Skylanders Swap Force. The game is the third entry into the Skylanders video game and toy franchise.

As its name suggests, Skylanders Swap Force will feature toys whose tops and bottoms are interchangeable. Gameplay is based on the previous two titles, where players use a portal to bring real-life action figures into the game. Swap Force features a new graphic engine, and will include new mini-games, as well as introducing the ability for Skylanders to jump

A Dark Edition Starter Kit will be sold exclusively at EB Games in Australia and will include five Dark Edition figurines: Dark Washbuckler, Dark Blast Zone, Dark Stealth Elf, Dark Spyro, and Dark Slobber Tooth. The Dark Edition Starter Kit will also include a copy of Skylanders Swap Force, a Portal of Power, a character poster, five sticker sheets with secret codes, and five trading cards.

The Skylanders series was developed by Activision studio Toys For Bob, which developed the original Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and its sequel, Skylanders Giants. Skylanders Swap Force was developed by Vicarious Visions.

The series has sold over 100 million toys, according to Activision. In total, the franchise has generated over $500 million since its launch in 2011.
