AU Shippin' Out: Ghostbusters

Sony calls up the Ghostbusters to fix a supernatural problem on the PS3.

There are plenty of games hitting stores this week, but it’s movie tie-in games that dominate the release schedule. PlayStation 3 owners will be pleased to know that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is due to hit Aussie stores this Thursday, with the PlayStation 2 edition due to release a week later on July 2. Set after the events of Ghostbusters 2, you play as a new recruit who joins the team. It's not long before something goes wrong and the Ghostbusters are called into action to recapture Slimer and discover that the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is back wreaking havoc. Thankfully, most of the film’s cast returns to do voice-overs for the game, including Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and more, making for a more authentic addition to the Ghostbusters’ universe. Unfortunately, if you've got an Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, or Wii, you'll have to wait until September when Sony's exclusivity runs out, allowing the game to be released on non-Sony platforms. Check out GameSpot's full review of Ghostbusters: The Video Game to help decide if it’s worth your hard-earned cash.

A couple of days before their Australian cinematic debut, the official games for both Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs are both slated to hit our shores on June 24. Both games will be coming out on the usual platforms: the PS2, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS. Interestingly, there are two versions of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming to the Nintendo DS, with one centering on the Autobots, while the other one features the Decepticons.

Nine months after the release of Spore, Maxis is shipping the first expansion pack. As the name suggests, Spore Galactic Adventures will focus on the space-exploration elements of Spore, giving players the ability to send their creatures on new missions to foreign planets, as well as create and share their own missions with the rest of the Spore community. This one will be in stores later this week.
