Atari today announced that it will be publishing a new real-time strategy game for the PC titled Act of War: Direct Action. The game, which is currently in development at France-based Eugen Systems, is scheduled to ship in spring of 2005.

On board to help with the creation of the game universe is Dale Brown, author of best-selling techno-thrillers such as Air Battle Force. What has been revealed of the story so far shows Brown's obvious input. As a result, the player will lead elite US troops as they battle an evil international force in such locales as San Francisco, Moscow, and Tokyo. Once that plot is overthrown, players can take the action online in the game's multiplayer mode, which can support up to eight players.

GameSpot will provide further information on Act of War: Direct Action as it becomes available.
