Assassin's Creed Valhalla Preorder Guide (PC, PS5, Series X, PS4, Xbox One): Release Date, Bonuses, And More

Assassin's Creed Valhalla releases this November on PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. That's a lot of platforms, and there's also four editions to choose from.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is still a few weeks away, but it's set to continue the open-world RPG paradigm that redefined the Assassin's Creed recently, this time in the Viking Age. Originally announced with a November 17 release date, Valhalla will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via Uplay and the Epic Games Store) on November 10 to match the Xbox One Series X and Series S release date. Valhalla will be available on both next-gen consoles: PS5 and Xbox Series X. This means Valhalla will be playable on a whopping six platforms (including Stadia). As an Assassin's Creed game, you can bet Valhalla has multiple editions to choose from when preordering. All editions are available to preorder now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and you can currently get a nice discount at Amazon and Walmart.

Valhalla will have a free upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series X and PS4 to PS5 when the next-gen consoles launch this holiday. If you purchase a physical edition for PS4, you'll have to insert the disc in your PS5 to play with the next-gen enhancements. The same goes for Xbox One to Series X. Digital edition PS4 and Xbox One owners will be able to download the next-gen version. So you'll only have to buy one edition of the game to play on both generations of consoles, and you can save some money this holiday by getting the PS4 edition and upgrading to the PS5 for free.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is set in the ninth century in a period of turmoil for the Vikings. You play as Eivor, a Viking raider who leads their clan away from the war-torn homeland of Norway on an adventure to England. Eivor can be played as male or female, and Ubisoft promises its combat will take cues from Viking fighting styles, with a reworked combat system that includes dual-wielding and more enemy variety. Like recent iterations of the franchise, Valhalla will have a season pass that grants access to post-launch DLC.

For more on the next entry in the Ubisoft franchise, check out our roundup of everything we know about Assassin's Creed Valhalla so far. GameSpot spoke with Valhalla narrative designer Derby McDevitt about the highly anticipated game, too. We learned Valhalla will connect to both Origins and Odyssey, and the storytelling will lean on a different structure than fans have become accustomed to. If you're getting God of War vibes from Valhalla thanks to the Norse gods, McDevitt said Ubisoft's take on Norse mythology will be more grounded.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla preorder bonuses

Preordering Assassin's Creed Valhalla unlocks access to a bonus mission dubbed The Way of the Berserker.

It's likely retailers will also offer their own exclusive bonuses before release--we'll include those here when available.

Preorder Assassin's Creed Valhalla standard edition | $50

Assassin's Creed Valhalla standard and special editions

The standard edition comes with The Way of the Berserker mission and is available to preorder now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The best price is currently available at Amazon and Walmart, which are both selling the base game for $49.94. If you order at Amazon, you'll get the store's preorder price guarantee, which means if you preorder at $60 and it drops again to $49.94 at any time between now and release, you'll still get the cheapest price. You can also technically preorder the PS5 and Series X editions of the game, but with the current-gen versions netting you a freed upgrade, there's not much reason to do so.

Preorder Assassin's Creed Valhalla Gold Edition | $100-$110

Those who preorder the $100 digital edition will just get the base game and season pass. Please note that Best Buy and GameStop also have digital Gold editions available for Xbox One (retailers can't sell PS4 digital codes anymore).

Physical Gold steelbook edition -- $110

Digital Gold edition -- $100

Preorder Assassin's Creed Valhalla Ragnarok Edition | $150

You'll get the Gold Edition of the game, the season pass, a steelbook, and the bonus mission in addition to the statuette--altogether, the package will cost you $150 (the cost of the steelbook Gold Edition plus the $40 figurine).

Preorder Assassin's Creed Valhalla Ultimate Edition | $130

Listed as exclusive customization content, the Ultimate Pack comes with the following items:

  • Berserker Gear Pack

  • Berserker Longship Pack
  • Set of Runes for gear upgrades

GameStop also has an exclusive Ultimate Edition that comes with a steelbook case for $130.

The Collector's Edition bundles all of the Ultimate Edition content--base game, preorder bonuses, season pass, and Ultimate Pack--and adds a bunch of physical goodies:

  • Ultimate Edition of the game with preorder bonuses
  • Replica statue of Eivor and her longship (30 cm)
  • Steelbook (exclusive to Ubisoft Store)
  • Collector's case with unique artwork
  • Statuette of Eivor with his Raven and Dane axe (5 cm)
  • 3 exclusive lithographs showcasing concept art for the game
  • Selected soundtrack

Ughh.. this franchise soooo needs to be put to bed for a while.. it just seems like they stick a hidden blade on any historical character and then call it an AC game..

Its my opinion that AC has lost its true identity, as this could just as easily be called anything else.

For me this is just Assasins Fatigue

Over $100 for a game they can change anytime they like with patches whether they are needed or not lol. That is truly comical.

You have open world games like CP2077 and Elden Ring (hopefully for 2020) and people are excited about this generic open world garbage made by one of the shittiest devs in the industry? The ones that haven't taken a risk in any of their MAIN franchises in over a decade? Okay, well, enjoy using a drone aka a bird/hawk to scan the environment to spot enemies on the ground, put a marker over their head, and then button mash one button to kill them all. Very exciting gameplay that is present in 100% of Ubi games.

@hardwenzen: Yeah, but you get to run around and gather all 80,000 Viking-themed collectables. That doesn’t excite you? /sarc

They really need to make one set in Persia. After all, that's where the word assassin (Hashishin) came from.

A Viking AC looks great. But how about a Civil War themed AC? They did the American Revolution and that was a massive success. ACW could be even bigger. Think of all the historical figures that could be included in the game. As a big ACW enthusiast, I would really look forward to that game.

@torrone: I’d like to see that too, but I can’t imagine how hard they’d have to tip toe around slavery to even make the game any fun.

@jsprunk: Easy, make the MC be a slave who is freed by the Assassin's and slaughters Southern leaders and slave owners. Problem solved.

Only difference between standard and gold editions is the season pass, but it's $50 more? How the hell do they think the season pass is worth that much extra?!

@jsjle9: Probably because they know what's going to be in it. Season Passes aren't the same game to game.

@mogan: I used to agree, but the recent rash of 'roadmaps' and such getting canceled or ignored by big publishers has me not believing them until I see the dlc released.

Dumb to have two different versions of Gold Edition and Ultimate Edition.

Honestly, those figures are very ugly. From all Assassins figures i skipped only Kenway on the mast one, because she too looked generic. The quality sure seems to dropped down on those two also.

Just 4 editions, huh?

Thought there would be 1 to go with each of the various studios that are working on it.

Why an ugly women statue in the Valhalla edition? Ubisoft once again showing how disconnected they are with the majority of the AC playerbase, the male statue would have been much, much better, or if it has to be a female, at least an attractive one. Who wants a statue of an ugly women?

And this is why I hate ubisoft with all of my heart. Collectors edition is fine but why hold content? Make it $70 and stop this bullshit practice.

@waltzink: Just like in Odyssey you choose either a male or female character. Although in Valhalla it seems like it will be the same character, where as in Odyssey it was a brother and sister.
