Assassin's Creed Odyssey Releasing On Switch In Japan As A Streaming Game

Odyssey is coming to Japan in a "cloud version."

A "cloud version" of Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be released in Japan. The Japanese Nintendo Direct video presentation last week confirmed that a special, streaming-only version of the open-world stealthy-stabby game will be released on Nintendo's hybrid console in October.

As with the previously released cloud version of Resident Evil 7 for Switch, Odyssey will presumably run on cloud servers with only a small download file locally.

A spokesperson for Ubisoft told GameSpot that Odyssey's Switch release is limited to Japan. "At the moment, this is a limited release for the Japanese market," a rep said.

Odyssey launches in early October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is getting a big chunk of free and paid post release content--you can read more about it all here.

Another nice treat for Japan. Maybe they're just kind of testing the waters and once Nintendo Switch Online rolls out and things are going smoothly the rest of the World will get this nice feature. Loved playing Black Flag on the Wii U, would be great to play Assassin's Creed again on a Nintendo system. Ezio Collection and Rogue Remaster would be neat for Switch.

Not big on streaming a game for a portable console, but it looks like it helps the graphics.

If the game runs great it could mean a lot more AAA coming to the switch by way of cloud. I guess its better to have the game on the cloud than to have no game at all or it running 15 fps at 360p

@sakaixx: streaming will never be a viable because of input lag.

@vakiva: Tried PSNow and its actually quite OK. Needs a good connection though, I have around 500mbps fibre speed so its quite stable.

@Bread_or_Decide: *capcom and *ubisoft pulled off. Seeing how ninty still uses P2P instead of actual servers for their online games, I doubt they can think beyond.
