Assassin's Creed: Odyssey Lets You Pay For Permanent XP Boost

Here's what you can spend real money on in the PS4, Xbox One, and PC game.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, like many other AAA games, allows players to spend real money on various microtransactions. With the game now available, we've learned all about the items you can purchase using the franchise's Helix Credit system.

You can purchase Helix Credits in five different packages:

  • Base Pack -- 500 Helix Credits ($5 USD/$7.55 AUD/£4.29 UK)
  • Small Pack -- 1050 Helix Credits ($10 USD/$14.95 AUD/£8.59 UK)
  • Medium Pack -- 2400 Helix Credits ($20 USD/$29.95 AUD/£16.99 UK)
  • Large Pack -- 4600 Helix Credits ($35 USD/$52.95 AUD/£29.99 UK)
  • Extra Large Pack -- 7400 Helix Credits ($50 USD/$75.95 AUD/£41.99 UK)

There are loads of different things you can buy with Helix Credits. Starting off, you can purchase a number of "time-saver" bundles with Helix Credits, including various allotments of the in-game currency, Drachmae, as well as packs that come with materials like wood and pelts that you would otherwise find in the world.

You can also purchase permanent XP and Drachmae boosts that offer 50 percent more XP and Drachmae than normal. The permanent XP boost costs 1000 Helix Credits, while the bundle that gets you 50 percent boosts for XP and Drachmae costs 1500 Helix Credits.

What's more, you can purchase maps that reveal the locations of things like legendary chests, ancient tablets, and more.

There are also microtransactions specific to ships in the form of various different designs for sails, figureheads, and outfits for your crew. You can also purchase various gear packs for your character, as well as skins for your horse that turn it into a unicorn or even a pegasus (but it doesn't appear to be able to actually fly). Additionally, you can buy swords, spears, and staffs individually or through sets.

You can visit Odyssey's store to see everything there is to buy with microtransactions. GameSpot's Assassin's Creed: Odyssey review scored the game an 8/10.

"Assassin's Creed Odyssey's ambition is admirable, which is reflected in its rich attention to detail for the era and its approach to handling the multi-faceted narrative with strong protagonists at the lead," reviewer Alessandro Fillari said. "While its large-scale campaign--clocking in at over 50 hours--can occasionally be tiresome, and some features don't quite make the impact they should, Odyssey makes great strides in its massive and dynamic world, and it's a joy to venture out and leave your mark on its ever-changing setting."

Sheesh. Paying ~$10 for permanent XP Boost.

Next up: Pay an additional $20 to automatically beat the game. LOL! After paying it, it jumps you to the end of the game and you see the End Credits. :D

when i was young, we didn't have to pay for cheat codes

The usual disgrace

Why didn’t we hear about this well before release day? I am betting all the ads for this game are the answer. This is pure corruption! I will not support this game. The female spartan was bad enough.

In other news: Assassin's Creed Odyssey also lets you NOT pay for XP boost. Sheesh.

now this does a lot of damage to the quality of a game.

When DMC 5 announced this there was an uproar, little did they know that UBI is doing this for years, some people have a problem with their IQ. Sheep mentality.

@nsa_protocol44: Agreed

nostormo more developer/publisher whose games I wont buy any more. In the end CD Project Red, Naughty Dog, Sony Entertainment, SEGA and Rockstar Games have enough quality games to cover my gaming sessions trough every year. Many times it is better to replay great game than to waste time and money crap like this......

Avatar image for nsa_protocol44

@nostormo: You should draw a line over Rockstars name. They have those Shark cards and are milking Online. They want to do the same with RDR 2 and the new GTA. In my humble opinion, I hate Rockstar more than EA. Because they saw the money online and forget about their other segment of consumers who are playing the singleplayer part.

Avatar image for nostormo

@nsa_protocol44: I was hesitant to put them on list but only reason is RDR2, all presented so far is spot on for me and also already secured copy half price ETA in 10 days so it wont be total damage if it comes out wrong in the end and then Rockstar will be for me gone from my list. But I think I will be OK since I am single player, story driven gamer who dont care for MP.

Because idiots bought this kinda crap in the last game, they ruined this one.

Avatar image for gleencross

Just wonderful. And to think some developers wonders why piracy exists

Avatar image for HesamB

Just when I thought this game couldnt get any worse

Avatar image for irritatedstick

It lets you pay to beat the game faster.. what

Avatar image for hrv_25

Whoever buys this should be ashamed of himself.

Avatar image for soliaired50

Ahahahahaha oh wait, this isn't a joke?

Avatar image for Ant_17

Welp, guess i know what YT video will be popular.

Helix credit farming videos.

Avatar image for DN3D1997

You can't farm for those-just for skins,rocks,gold,etc.

Avatar image for Ant_17

@DN3D1997: Wow, that sucks.

Avatar image for sakaixx

or, get pc version and download a trainer.

Avatar image for DN3D1997

In Origins they had some Helix credits to start with,as i remember, but i guess they completely removed them from Odyssey. This kind of practise and the almost 100% GPU (980Ti 6GB) load are holding me from getting it.

Avatar image for darkrunedk

@DN3D1997: You get 200 Helix some time into the game, but I don't know if you will get more than that...

Avatar image for lionheartssj1

Wow. I hope they don't make a cent off this, but I know somebody is going to buy it and they'll keep doing this crap.

Avatar image for datriax

I have no words, for the degree of stupid you have to be, to give these companies, even one red cent more than retail price of the game, which is already overpriced.

You people, are the intellectual slime of humanity, and the saddest part is, it doesn't even bother you. Incredible really.

Avatar image for gleencross

@datriax: I understand your frustration, lol But I had to laugh

Avatar image for kstaggs87

And the reason we keep getting bullshit like this is because people pay for it. Stop feeding the monster.

Avatar image for sephirothswing

Coming fresh from the company that says this industry has no soul, bwahahahaha, oh Ubisoft you make my heart ache 🤣
