Assassin's Creed Odyssey Goes Mythical In New Fate Of Atlantis DLC

The gods must be crazy.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey has already borrowed inspirations from several iconic Greek myths in its main campaign, but it's doubling down in The Fate of Atlantis DLC. Spread out into three parts--the first of which has already launched--The Fate of Atlantis sees Kassandra/Alexios meet several of the inspirations behind the Greek gods. Episodes two and three, called Torment of Hades and Judgement of Atlantis respectively, are scheduled to release in mid-2019.

This first episode is titled Fields of Elysium, and will take place in the Greek afterlife. You'll journey to Elysium itself, interact with Greek gods, and battle mythical beasts. The trailer even shows a glimpse of Cerberus. Notably, the advanced beings who have been steering major events in the Assassin's Creed series have shared names with the Greek gods, so this could shed more light on the larger story running throughout the series. Plus, of course, you can get new pieces of legendary loot.

We got some in-depth time with Fate of Atlantis, so be sure to check out our hands-on impressions and watch an extended session of gameplay.

The Fate of Atlantis will also introduce new Ability enhancements, letting you modify your existing abilities for a more customized playstyle. This first episode will start with Ares Bull Charge, Might of Artemis, Kronos Time Warp, and Ares Madness--all abilities named after the pantheon of gods.

If you've already played the main game, you'll need to have completed the Between New Worlds and the Heir of Memories quest lines, with a character at level 28 or above, to access the DLC. If you'd rather just skip straight to the new story, you can use a shortcut to Fate of Atlantis and start at level 52 with preset Abilities. But if you use that option, you won't be able to carry your progress to the main game or obtain achievements.

This trilogy of episodes is the second large-scale expansion for Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The first one, Legacy of the First Blade, caused some controversy, prompting an apology and some changes from Ubisoft. Alongside Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered and Liberation Remastered, these two episodes compose the full season pass, which is available for $40. The Fate of Atlantis story arc by itself can be purchased for $25.

The expansive post-launch support for Odyssey is part of Ubisoft's plan to make the series act more like its live games, with long tails and regularly updated events. That means no new Assassin's Creed is planned for 2019, but the next game reportedly set during the Viking Age is likely aiming for 2020. That one is said to be code-named Assassin's Creed Kingdom, which may not be the final title.

"Controversy"... Sigh. Given the context of the story there's only one way to go about that and it's to be in a heterosexual relationship. That's not controversial, that's fact. It's unfortunate Ubi caved in to these trivialities, shows how utterly weak our culture is becoming. I mean seriously, when you're offended by biology, the very thing that makes you, you, how ignorant can you really be? Media outlets need to stop perpetuating bullshit like this and call it like it is, stupidity.

Great game, 105 hours in and have completed everything except this DLC arc. As with the First Blade though, I'm waiting until it's all out so I can experience it properly.

@reznik00: The only one ignorant here is your comment. The controversy was never about biology, but rather a company lying about what their product would deliver. Customers have a right to criticize false advertising.

This game came out BEFORE CHRISTMAS...

it's arrogant af for the Developers to think people that played it then are still going.

unlikely & they know this... SO the mentality is for gamers to buy the DLC & return to said game.

This is something I always hated about DLC..

No way should a DLC take 6 months.

ESP when they know before launch they are going to do it...

***The best solution in my old age wisdom is to wait to buy games that will have guaranteed DLC..

Sure a RainbowSixSiege & COD are exceptions to the rule as you can play MP casually for a year.

<<OFF TOPIC,,my opinions of my time with the game>>

I tried so hard to like AssCreed Odyssey..

I made it to when you sail away from 1st island((2-3 sessions 2 hours each, did all sideQuest))

~I enjoyed the bounty following me the whole island.

~Voice acting

~I enjoyed getting powerful enough to barely beat him(I mighta been underleveled)

~I enjoyed the graphics & controls

~I liked the Eagle concept of tagging aka Ariel Binoculars for Tagging.

~I liked Swimming.

~I love/hate the combat

~negatives~

~i hated the lag on the Eagle. too long to start/end.

~Where's the stealth? imo (I can handle nerfed stealth but it's still a neg.

~I don't like the main character..not a annoying as 'Talion from Mordor' but still

~Sailing bored me.

~I HATE the whole mind time travel concept of AssCreed games.

~I know I shoulda stuck with it as it probably gets exciting when you get you're personalized Crew.

Esp if you can level them as side quest em aka attachment to em etc.

But the idea of doing it again or returning seems like WORK not FUN...

Maybe one day.....

I did just get Assassin's Creed Origins for free from HumbleMonthly...

Maybe i'll give it a shot. maybe not...

As with the first chapter of the paid DLC, I shall be waiting for all three to be ready for play prior to commencing the Odyssey again. Legacy of the Hidden Blade was great when pieced together and came to be a very worthy purchase already.

As for those who were whinging about the Kassandra/Alexios family scenario: TOUGH LUCK! The developers are telling a story and if you don't like it then get over yourself. Not everything is about choice and if it wasn't to your liking then go and play something else. I didn't like the ending to a few games but it wasn't my choice. #EntitledGamers

@sippio: No, Legacy of the Hidden Blade was released first and that has had three episodes already. This will be the fourth piece of paid DLC but the first in the Fate of Atlantis storyline.
