Asia Shippin' Out September 4-10: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
The triple-A-title train is steamrolling through this week with intergalactic escapades, road rage, alien invasions, and zombie infestations.
With so many games coming out this week and a few more down the line, gamers will definitely end up with a lighter wallet and a hollow bank account depending on how many genres they're into. From first-person shooting to reckless driving, there is something here for everyone.
First up is Relic's second foray into action gaming since The Outfit. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine puts players in the metal boots of Captain Titus, a high-ranking Ultramarine who has to stop the Ork hordes and the forces of Chaos from extinguishing human life on the Forge World. The action game features about 11 different types of weapons and equipment, as well as 17 chapters to play through in the game's campaign mode. The game also offers multiplayer modes, ranging from cooperative Exterminatus mode to eight-on-eight team deathmatches. Gamers can expect to get dirty in this war-torn future this Tuesday for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
Next up is Resistance 3 for the PS3. The third game in the series focuses on the last surviving Sentinel, Joseph Capelli, as he journeys through the alien Chimera-ridden USA to fight for his survival. The game offers two-player online or split-screen co-op play for its single-player campaign. The game's multiplayer mode offers different customization options and has its player count reduced from 60 players to 16. Gamers can check out this sequel this Tuesday.
Players looking for a horror fix can check out Dead Island or Rise of Nightmares this week. The former is a first-person shooter where gamers are stuck on an island filled with the undead, while the latter is a first-person hack-and-slash action title touted as the "first mature game to hit the Xbox 360 Kinect."
Driver: San Francisco may have been in stores prior to this week, but only through parallel importing. On Tuesday, the game is officially out, without gamers having to pay a little more for shipping fees. The game is all about performing death-defying feats of driving and bringing down criminal groups using Ford GTs or any other vehicle gamers can jump into using the game's shift mechanic. GameSpot's review of the game states that Driver: San Francisco "puts memories of the mediocre Driver 3 to rest and reinvigorates the franchise" thanks to its shift mechanic and huge open-world city ripe for exploration.
Last but not least, strategy role-playing fans can take an involved trip down to the Netherworld with Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. Players control the vampire Valvatorez, a Prinny drill sergeant who used to be an Overlord tyrant. The story starts off with him investigating a Prinny kidnapping, which then leads to a Netherworld conspiracy he has to uncover. The game features redone high-definition graphics and aesthetics, a new party-management option called the cam-paining system, new classes like the android and battle suit, and an online mode called Pirate Runs. Players can look forward to the English version of the game this Tuesday on the PS3.
