Asia Shippin' Out July 17-23: Call of Juarez: The Cartel

Modern Wild West shooting, dynamic narrative questing, and another postapocalyptic expansion fill up retail shelves this week.

First up this week is Ubisoft's Call of Juarez: The Cartel for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Unlike past titles of the brand, The Cartel takes place during modern times, chronicling a drug war across the Mexican border. Players control three characters during the course of the story: an FBI agent, a sheriff, and an undercover drug agent. The game also features two different online modes, both of them team based. Players can check out the shooter when it's out tomorrow; check out GameSpot's recent preview of the third title in the series.

Next on the list is Bastion, an action role-playing title that is part of Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion. In addition to a bevy of action and weapons up for experiencing and using, players will get to check out hand-painted environments and a "dynamic narrative" written by ex-GameSpot site director and executive editor Greg Kasavin. Gamers can check out this oddity when it hits Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday.

Capping off this week's releases is the third expansion to Fallout: New Vegas. Entitled Old World Blues, the downloadable content further explores the Mojave's mutated-monster contingent that was touched on in the original game's narrative in a new area called the Big Empty. Players can choose to either side with the scientists of said mutation or oppose against them while fighting off robot scorpions and machines. Prior to the DLC's release, Bethesda will be releasing a title update for the game, which will improve the game's performance and stability.
