Asia Shippin' Out Feb. 26 - March 3: One Piece Kaizoku Musou
Anime franchise's debut on PS3 landing on shores this week alongside EA's snowboarder refresh and Sega's robot shooter.
The One Piece series has made its mark on video games in one form or another, most recently on the DS and 3DS. Gamers hoping to see a next-gen iteration of the manga-slash-anime franchise will be pleased to know that One Piece: Kaizoku Musou will be making its debut on the PlayStation 3 this week.
The action game is developed by Omega Force, a team famous for the Dynasty Warriors series. Players control the Straw Hats pirates led by Monkey D. Luffy as they relive story moments in video game form showcasing different character perspectives. Apart from emulating the Dynasty Warriors style of gameplay, One Piece also introduces comrade strike techniques and online co-op.
Also on tap this week is SSX for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The snowboarding game pits players as they race downhill to either outrace their opponents, survive a race through a Deadly Descents course, or gather as many points as possible performing airborne tricks. The game also introduces RiderNet; much like Autolog and Battlelog in past EA titles, gamers playing SSX can connect with their peers and post scores for leaderboard purposes.
The English version of Binary Domain is out this week for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Players control a squad of soldiers who are given a task to quell the robot onslaught in Tokyo 2080. The game introduces the consequence system where players have a trust level that determines how the team reacts and follow orders, as well as determines the narrative.
The English version of Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure will be out tomorrow for the 3DS. The game pits players in the shoes of Ralph, a thief by trade in search of his long-lost father. Players will guide Ralph on his quest presented as rhythm minigames. The Japanese version of the game debuted pretty high on the sales chart for the week of January 16.
Also out for the public is Wakfu, a tactical turn-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players control a denizen of Wakfu as they explore the world while fighting enemies in turn-based fashion. The game features 25 spells for players to amass and 14 character classes for players to choose from. The PC game follows a free-to-play model, but players can pay $6 per month to get access to the game's premium content.
