Arrow-verse: Should Batwoman Get Her Own Show After "Elseworlds"

GameSpot and TV Guide are crossing over to talk Batwoman!

Now that Batwoman has arrived and added a new hero to the Arrow-verse--not to mention a location in Gotham City--there are some questions we need to think about. The CW's superhero programming block is already jam-packed thanks to Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning. Is there room for yet another hero next season?

To figure that out and take a deep dive through everything we learned about Batwoman in the "Elseworlds" crossover event, GameSpot teamed up with TV Guide for a roundtable discussion about whether a Batwoman show should happen and what it might entail. Luckily, thanks to "Elseworlds," we already know quite a bit.

First and foremost, this is a Gotham City that has been abandoned by Batman for one reason or another. In his place, Bruce Wayne's cousin Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) is suiting up at Batwoman to protect what's left of an already devastated city. Also still populating the city, from cells at Arkham Asylum, are the likes of Riddler, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Clayface, and Nora Fries just to name a few. What stood out in the Gotham-centric "Elseworlds" installment as Easter eggs and open doors to many notable Batman villains and elements fans of the comics will find familiar.

It's, honestly, a remarkable amount of world-building done in a single one-hour episode of TV. What's more, as those who saw the end of "Elseworlds" know, this entire event was all building to next year's crossover, "Crisis on Infinite Earths"--which will include Batwoman and one of the Gotham City foes introduced.

With so much time spent introducing the world of Kate Kane, it already seems like a foregone conclusion that we'll definitely be seeing a lot more of her in the future. Will she get her own show, though? That's something we'll have to wait to find out. In the meantime, join GameSpot and TV Guide in dreaming for the day that happens.

Yes, 100%. Please give us this show! I watch all the CW superhero shows, and I think this show would be an amazing addition to the line up. A Batwoman show would be an opportunity to tell a darker, more real story about the struggles of people, (queer or straight) to fit in.

The choice to stand up for what is right even when everything else has gone wrong.

To hope for, and work for, a better tomorrow no matter how bad everything is looking right now.

To me everything is looking and turning darker in the real world. This show is needed.

Please make the show.

Arrow Flash and Black Lightning. I can't be bothered with Legends.

Runaways Gifted Titans and Cloak and Dagger I watch too.

Bat Woman? Hell no. If they mad it like Titans yeah but it's going to be corny as hell.

Black Lightning villain surprised the hell out of me. It's my stand out now that Netflix canceled Luke Cage.

TBH, and this has nothing to do with her character, or her being gay, no. at this point all we've seen is roughly the same premise as Arrow. There wouldn't be a whole lot setting the two shows apart. That coupled with the fact that I just don't buy Rose as a physical combatant. She's far too skinny. That's not body shaming, either, she looks fine health-wise I guess, but she doesnt look like someone who spends time beating up criminals. I bought her as a physical threat in John Wick 2 as Ares, but they did a much better job at hiding how small she is.

I'd be interested if they did a better job with a lot of aspects of her character in the future, buuut as of this moment, as I said, nah.

I care more that Supergirl in her own show spent half the time being locked up. That's just embarrassing.

We don't need Batwoman at all. Getting tired of all the TV shows with PC agendas. I watch TV to be entertained, not to see another progressive ideology propaganda piece.

@EliOli: A main character just being gay isn't pushing an agenda. They couldve been a little more subtle than they were, but that's all it was, them not being subtle, which is a fairly systemic problem with the arrowverse as a whole. Nothing she did was out of character, nothing she did would have been unacceptable for a straight person to do. So no, as much as you would like to call it that, it's not propaganda

@ntrocketsurgery: lol more subtle? She didn't kiss any girls and there was mild flirting with super girl. How much subtle do you want? Should she have worn a "I'm straight" t-shirt?

I'm just pulling your leg. ?

@ntrocketsurgery: Of course you don't get my point. That is my point. The progressive agenda is the re-writing of reality. So those that have bought into this propaganda are blind to it because they've already bought it.

@EliOli: when are you going to realize that the world isn’t going to cater just to you. People want to see characters that they can relate to and they can identify with. If it were up to people like you, we’d still have only White Male characters running around. That sounds quite boring imo.

@skot_free: It must be fun being on that high horse looking down on us sinners. Virtue signal away, have fun watching Mary sue, I mean captain marvel. Oh and FYI if they weren't shooting for an agenda then the CW and Berlanti would have given Batgirl or Damian aka Robin their own series. The Arrowverse is full tilt far left agenda driven and Batwoman is one of many examples of it.

@ChldsPlay: If that wasn't what you were replying to then that's fair, but presenting an something which simply and obviously isn't accurate as something which is, is the definition of a straw man. And given the fact that there are maybe 3 or 4 characters across all of the Arrowverse who are gay -not even talking about the network, just talking about the writing that are actually responsible for creative decisions on these shows- that's about the average level of normal.

Fact check yourself.

Most the ppl in arrowverse are in the "millennial" age demographic. So they are 1/2 there.

I'd rather not see the low rent woke cheap version of an iconic character like Batman. I don't care about batwoman and I don't think it's fair to give her her own TV show right off the bat (no pun intended) you want to give one of the batfamily their own series try Batgirl. I genuinely respect her and see her as a legitimate crime fighter. In my very personal opinion.

No. For two reasons.

A) CW ruins DC comics shows with its low budget, cringey attitude. Half the time the "heroes" waste time talking about their relationship issues. The villains are allowed to kill no more than one character per season. Whoever dies returns from the dead via scientific/magical means or gets replaced, sometimes instantly with his/her version from another earth. And a lot of other stuff.

B) Right now we have a Batman b show (Arrow), a Batman junior show (Gotham) and a show with two Robins (Titans). Next year they're making a show about Alfred! When are they going to get serious and give us a proper Batman show, with the actual Dark Knight, and preferably NOT CW; Do you really want ANOTHER Batman-ish character;

Not to mention that who cares about Batwoman; What's next? A show starring Lucius Fox? Or that guy who wipes Bruce Wayne's... sins?

I watch all these shows and enjoy them i hope all the shows go past 10 seasons if any of you dont like the shows going this long or if u think there are to many of them just don't watch them there the highest rated shows on the cw besides supernatural so there is no reason for them to end and it sounds like the cw wants to keep all of them going.

IF the CW green lights Batwoman that would be their 6th superhero show on 1 network. It would be extremely difficult to maintain interest in that many superhero type shows. Especially considering the superhero fatigue that Marvel is producing right now, I have been onboard for ten years and I am getting a little tired, I think this wave of superhero genre is starting to wind down.

After ALL the controversy and the hype about this years crossover; it just felt like 3 hours of easter eggs and fan service than an actual crossover. The actual story was probably 30-40 minutes of the 3 hour run time.

@doa2169: Heh, reminds me of Supergirl show, then (the only one I watch from Berlanti anyway). If you reject "previously on", relationship statuses and other soap opra stuff, you actually get 5-10 min. of plot time per episode.

I don't even know why i watch Flash anymore.

Make it a show like Titans, not under CW, that show turned out great compared to the rest of DC shows.

I don't know why I watch these shows any more... waiting to see things through to the bitter end I guess. This is what, the 7th season of Arrow? It has to wrap up soon right? Both Arrow and the Flash have not been good in years and yet they keep spawning new shows to crossover with. It's interesting how Legends of Tomorrow was left out of this crossover, that show is so bad this season that I swear it's trying to get itself cancelled. Despite all of this, I actually had high hopes for this Elseworlds crossover for some reason, but it was complete crap, and I still don't understand how they resolved everything at the end. Oh well.

Interestingly enough, DC's new Titans show (not on CW) is done by the same show runners (Greg Berlanti/Jennifer Lence) and is significantly better (though still not great).

@knifebeater: I think your right, about arrow getting ready to end. And this is how it all resolved.

Oliver made a deal with the monitor, (equivalent exchange) his life to rewrite Flash and Supergirl's destinys so they didn't die. And to help stop the mad scientist.

The Monitor made the deal and have Oliver an arrow to us to stop all the madness. Which is why the arrow Oliver had that he shot at the book was glowing blue.

Further support that Oliver traded his life yet again, (he has made deals like this before, like with the FBI) was the toast he made when he an Berry were having a drink.
