It was less than a month and a half ago that Atari announced it had picked up the North American publishing rights to ArmA: Combat Operations, and it hasn't wasted any time getting the game ready for the region. The company today confirmed that the game has gone gold and will ship to stores on May 1.

The PC game has already been released in Europe, where it is known as ArmA: Armed Assault. Prague game makers Bohemian Interactive, the same studio that produced Operation Flashpoint, handled the development duties.

Combat Operations is a realistic combat simulator played from a first-person perspective. In addition to the single-player game, the shooter features multiplayer modes that can support up to 50 players.

ArmA: Combat Operations will retail for $39.99 and is rated M for Mature. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage or head over to Atari's Web site.
